There's some nuance here. This bug is GTK-related. If your emacs daemon
is not compiled with gtk support (either a terminal-only version of
compiled with the lucid toolkit), then you will not see this bug. Even

really always be softlinks (as far as I know). So could you remove the
file and try to remove fpc again. If that succeeds, you should be able
to install the newer version.

Still no luck with it. Installed Trisquel mini which installed fine and
worked but found its webbrowsing limited. Tried another copy of ubuntu
12.04 installation. This produced a "Kernal Panic". oh well, one day
