The main screen has loaded, but the loading was slow.
The left side and top of the screen is just a pattern, no icons.
Just touching areas does bring up windows, hit and miss what you are getting
though.
Everything is small so trying to navigate is difficult.

Raring. I note that guake -h lists the additional command:

I can confirm that the advice given by morlock has returned my bios to
working order, though I don't think this marks the bug as solved as it
is just a workround and will probably recur if Ubuntu is reinstalled.

I tried to switch drivers using jockey at some point, which failed and
must have left a bit of a mess. So when i ran "sudo apt-get remove
--purge fglrx fglrx_* fglrx-amdcccle* fglrx-dev* " the fglrx part
failed. Running just the fglrx part again seems to have worked

I don't use Jeremy's ibus PPA, only GNOME3 PPA. But after the
yesterday's update I was unable to start neither GNOME nor Unity, all
the apps would segfault leaving such messages in dmesg:

And what about 64-bit versions? They never are built.
