[Bug 1047040] Re: kvm crashed on precise - memory corruption

2013-04-01 Thread Chun-Hung Chen
Recently I also encounter this issue. I am running reboot stress test
with ubuntu desktop. After 2xxx times, the VM shutdown then reboot to
have the same memory corruption information in qemu.log. It also causes
my libvirt responds wierd. After kill the VM, libvirtd works well.

[Bug 1160464] Re: Bind db.root outdated, backport only the db.root file, for LTS important to keep db.root updated

2013-04-01 Thread Robie Basak
Also see bug 1090593.

That addresses the issue of an old published root server IP that will
stop responding in the future, causing a small (few second) delay in the
one thirteenth of startups where bind will time out before it is able to
bootstrap the latest root NS records from one of the other root servers.

LaMont wanted to go further and backport the entire root zone file as
you suggested. I remain unconvinced that there is any point, since I
don't see how there will be any impact on the hints file being behind in
general since it picks up the latest records from any root server it can
find on startup. But LaMont is the Debian maintainer for bind and the
conclusion was to go with the full backport.

Subscribing and assigning LaMont, since AIUI he's already going to do
this for bug 1090593. But I'll keep the bugs separate for now, since bug
1090593 is that D is out of date, this bug is that they're all out of
date, and it is possible to resolve one bug without the other.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

Thanks for linking to the Debian bug. According to the discussion there,
this is a bug in openssl and not in bind9. It seems likely to me that
this will not get fixed in Ubuntu until it is fixed in Debian.

Thanks for your debdiff for Ubuntu 12.04. I verified it against upstream
and it looks good. The build log looks fine and after several runs
through the testsuite, I've noted the intermittent tests in QRT (this
took a while and was a bit frustrating). Uploading to the security PPA
now. While publish when it is done building.

[Bug 1162999] [NEW] PHP should be updated in 12.04.1 LTS, as 5.3.10 has a regression

2013-04-01 Thread Joel Bradshaw
Public bug reported:

PHP 5.3.10 (Ubuntu package version 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.6) has a regression
that breaks the stream_get_line() function, as documented at
https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=60817

This is critical in some applications - in my case, it breaks the PHP
beanstalkd client I use. As mentioned in the PHP bug above, it was
fixed in the next version, PHP 5.3.11. I'm not sure of the package
update policies, but if this could be upgraded in one of the precise
repos, it would save many people pain who upgrade from an older LTS to
the current one and find their PHP apps broken.

I'll keep you posted. It might take a week or two before I'm confident
they are working correctly.

[Bug 832507] Re: console.log grows indefinitely

2013-04-01 Thread Joshua Harlow
Just to brainstorm:

Are any of the following possible??

1. Correctly have libvirtd configure and manage the console log file size. Some
new XML configuration for the domain.xml format could be provided to alter the
behavior? How much of the libvirt code would have to change for this?
2. If #1 isn't possible, then I presume we could use libvirt's 'named pipe'
console capability and attach our own daemon to do the same as #1 (where we
would use said daemon to read on said pipe and restrict the output files size).
Of course how does this handle restarts or daemon failures. Basically this
daemon would be the ring buffer 'maintainer' while libvirt would just feed it
info.
3. Use a pseudo-tty to do something similar to #2?

@Michael, be interested to hear what u think. Personally I think the
libvirtd project is where this belongs (via #1) since it already has a
daemon (libvirtd) and knowledge about which instances are active,
console config, and such. I assume this hasn't been fixed in libvirt (or
as a feature request). I'm not an expert on that code-base but if I had
pointers perhaps that is the correct way to go about this (or its a
dual-approach).

Re: [Bug 1068756] Re: IPv6 Privacy Extensions enabled on Ubuntu Server by default

2013-04-01 Thread Neil Wilson
No the IPv6 system prefers privacy addresses over standard addresses if not
explicitly told otherwise.

Server *userspace software* should tell the system explicitly what it wants
to do so that clients can connect to it.

The problem is with the userspace software, not the IPv6 configuration. It
should be selecting addresses that it requires. Much outbound server
software can benefit from privacy addresses and your solution denies them
that option because of faulty binding in the userspace software.

So I disagree. The problem is userspace software not using the 'hint' IOCTL
in IPv6 address binding to tell the operating system what type of addresses
it requires.

In other words IPv4 thinking in an IPv6 world.

On 31 March 2013 23:26, Tim Heckman 1068...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote:

I don't think you are correct. Here's why: the comments in the file
mentioned in my original bug report (of which I actually included the
full contents of the file) state the following:

'2 - prefer privacy addresses and use them over the normal addresses.'

Heavy emphasis on the word prefer. These addresses will be preferred for
*ALL* IPv6 traffic. This means that for all outbound IPv6 traffic,
unless explicitly bound, it will use the privacy extension address.
Which is correct, this is what software *should* do. In addition to
that, addresses brought up with privacy extension enabled are global
addresses. So even if said software were to bring use the 'global'
address they would get the privacy extension address as it is preferred.
The kernel is working right, the software is working right, the bug is
that the server image has this enabled by default.

So in short, you're absolutely wrong. The server image should not have
this enabled, and the software that is communicating over IPv6 is doing
*exactly* what it should. It's using the preferred IPv6 address.

I'm okay with this being enabled for desktops, but it has *no* place in
 server environments.

[Bug 1162682] [NEW] Chromium sound is scratchy

2013-04-01 Thread Sean Hunt
Public bug reported:

chromium-browser version 25.0.1364.160-0ubuntu1b1 in the 13.04 Raring
beta.

All sound coming out of Chromium is scratchy. This is not a Flash or
plugin problem, as it occurs with media files (such as .mp3 files or
HTML5 videos) as well. Downloading media files and running externally to
Chromium works fine, as does Firefox (including in Flash with the same
plugin).

It is expected that the sound plays with no artifacts or scratchiness.

[Bug 1162596] Re: Boinc exlusive applications dialogue doesnt show binaries

2013-04-01 Thread LocutusOfBorg
Thanks for spotting this out to me, anyway I have already looked into
this problem and fixed it in my ppa costamagnagianfranco/boinc /firefox
and locutusofborg-ppa.

This wildcard problem has been also reported and fixed upstream a long time ago.

This bug anyway triggered some more bugs:
-check for executable bit: it DOESN'T work with current wxwidgets, I opened a
wx bug and they said me that this works with wx 3.0, so I disabled this check
until 3.0 gets into debian and ubuntu.
-the add doesn't work, to make it work I followed the upstream guide to change
permissions and so on.

I don't know what change made it work (maybe adding the user to boinc
group? Chmod the files?)

Pretty sure it was a permission problem in editing the file.

So if anybody wants to help me in fixing the second part of this bug can
just use my ppa, follow the upstream guide to client configuration,
reboot at each change and tell me which change did the trick.

I have a clean machine right now, so I'll do this trick too.

[Bug 1059543] Re: GUI - Invisible GUI elements [Lubuntu]

2013-04-01 Thread 2green
** Description changed:

  For example:

  1) In openbox configuration manager the checkboxes are invisible until
hovering above them. In my case a few boxes are checked and only show a
white square until hovering above them. When hovering I see blue boxes
with a black mark in them.

  2) in the default file manager folder and file icons are only show when
hovering above them (see screen shot)

  3) An recently fixed issue, but related to the above on: In de start
menu the icons where sometimes invisible, but this seems to be fixes
with the last updates (a few days back this problem still occured).

- Problem is reproducable on my second system.

[Bug 1162706] [NEW] Power indicator gone missing.

2013-04-01 Thread Jason Wagner
Public bug reported:

After installing yesterday's Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 daily image, I had a
power indicator, but somewhere between completing the installation and
now, I've lost it. I have installed a few other applications, but
nothing I would expect to interfere. All extensions have been disabled.
No change whether I'm on battery on AC power.

I do still receive low power notifications through the notifications

Other configurations do not seem to be affected

Installing xserver-xorg-lts-precise , and removing xserver-xorg-lts-

[Bug 1052278] Re: [ASUS][X501U][X401U] Fn + F8 display mode switch hot key will switch the mode 2 times by one single key stroke

2013-04-01 Thread AceLan Kao
This patch is in 3.8 kernel.

commit a2a96f0c7221806c8a8072b662e6deaa119833da
Author: AceLan Kao acelan@canonical.com
Date: Wed Oct 3 11:26:31 2012 +0200

asus-wmi: add display toggle quirk

For machines with AMD graphic chips, it will send out WMI event and ACPI
interrupt at the same time while hitting the hotkey. BIOS will notify the
system the next display output mode throught WMI event code, so that
windows' application can show an OSD to tell the user which mode will be
taken effect. User can hit the display toggle key many times within 2
seconds to choose the mode they want. After 2 seconds, WMI dirver should
send a WMIMethod(SDSP) command to tell the BIOS which mode the user chose.
And then BIOS will raise another ACPI interrupt to tell the system to
really switch the display mode.

In Linux desktop, we don't have this kind of OSD to let users to choose
the mode they want, so we don't need to call WMIMethod(SDSP) to have
another ACPI interrupt. To simplify the problem, we just have to ignore
the WMI event, and let the first ACPI interrupt to send out the key event.

For the need, here comes another quirk to add machines with this kind of
behavior. When the WMI driver receives the display toggle WMI event, and
found the machin is in the list, it will do nothing and let ACPI video
driver to report the key event.

in WMI command, but just iterates the wifi/bt's status described below
1st. enable wifi, enable bt
2nd. disable wifi, enable bt
3rd. enable wifi, disable bt
4th. disable wifi, disable bt
That will totally mess up the rfkill status, since we will try to read
wifi and bt's status and reset it again while booting up.

To avoid this, these machines should set the wapf value to 4,
that will let software totally control the wifi/bt's status and
BIOS will do nothing instead of sending out the 0x88(KEY_RFKILL) event
instead of 0x5e(wifi enable), 0x5f(wifi diable), 0x7d(bt enable), and
0x7e(bt disable) through WMI.

With this patch[1], it will handle the KEY_RFKILL event correctly and
will block/unblock wifi and bt together.

[Bug 1161231] Re: Habilitando los paquetes privativos

2013-04-01 Thread Adela Suhani
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We noticed that some of the sentences in this bug report
are not in English. If they were translated to English they would be
more understandable to triagers. Could you please translate them?

[Bug 1000549] Re: [X101CH] Opening display lid fails to wake system up from S3

2013-04-01 Thread AceLan Kao
The patch is in 3.5 mainstream kernel.

commit c0b91b6d5226247fa4fe894eb592bcc56bc7e9fd
Author: AceLan Kao acelan@canonical.com
Date: Wed Jun 13 09:32:07 2012 +0200

asus-wmi: enable resume on lid open

According to the ASUS WMI spec., to enable resume on lid open should
use the device ID(0x00120032), but it doesn't work indeed.

After discussing with ASUS' BIOS engineer, they say wake on lid open
doesn't have a uniq device ID(0x00120032) in the BIOS. It shares the same
device ID with deep S3(0x00120031), and the deep S3(resume on lid open)
is disable by default.

Adding this option in asus wmi sysfs
   /sys/devices/platform/platform/lid_resume
so that userspace apps can enable/disable this feature by themselves.

[Bug 1162728] [NEW] confusion about priorities

2013-04-01 Thread robert.berger
Public bug reported:

man page:
priPRI priority of the process. Higher number means lower priority.

In my tests I manipulate priorites and run afterwards:

ps -C -e -o class,rtprio,pri,nice,cmd
ps -e -o class,rtprio,pri,nice,cmd | grep fork_1.out

-
1) default prio

./fork_1.out

CLS RTPRIO PRI NI CMD
TS - 190 ./fork_1.out

-
2) nice lower prio

nice -n 19 ./fork_1.out

CLS RTPRIO PRI NI CMD
TS - 0 19 ./fork_1.out

The above has a higher priority 190, man pages for ps say that higher number
means lower priority, so this is inconsistent.
-

3) nice higher prio
sudo nice -n -20 ./fork_1.out

CLS RTPRIO PRI NI CMD
TS - 39 -20 ./fork_1.out

Here the PRI is 39190, although this shoul now be be highest possible
priority in the TS class - inconsistent

-

chrt -m
SCHED_OTHER min/max priority: 0/0
SCHED_FIFO min/max priority : 1/99
SCHED_RR min/max priority : 1/99
SCHED_BATCH min/max priority: 0/0
SCHED_IDLE min/max priority : 0/0

-

4) highest rt prio

sudo chrt -r 99 ./fork_1.out

CLS RTPRIO PRI NI CMD
RR 99 139 - ./fork_1.out

13939190 this should be the highest available RT priority -
inconsistent

-

5) lowest rt prio

sudo chrt -f 1 ./fork_1.out

CLS RTPRIO PRI NI CMD
FF 1 41- ./fork_1.out
FF 1 41- ./fork_1.out

this should be the lowest available RT priority - inconsistent

--

Besides:
The RT-priorites go from 1 (lowest) to 99 (highest), which seems OK, but the
same range maps to 41 to 139, which IMHO maps to a kernel static priority for 1
to 99.

Since the first nice priority (-n 20 maps to a Prio value of 39) the
questions is what happened to 40?

What we see is:
Priority values from 0 to 139 with a gap at 40 seem to map to static kernel
priorities of 139 to 1 (which would explain the gap).

Anyhow is this really how it's supposed to be?

What should prio is ps show?

[Bug 1137817] Re: [ivb] System freeze after high memory usage

2013-04-01 Thread rsoika
My system is still freezing. I am working with 3.9.0-rc4 and using kernel
option i915.reset=0.
The system is rebooting after 10 minutes (in most cases). But maybe I have now
some new interesting information:

I wrote a stupid script added into my crontab. The script is telling me every 3
minutes that everything is ok. I want to check if the system can log anything
during the freeze.
Now I have had a freeze at 11:17. The system reboots at 11:27.
This is the syslog: You can see that my cronjob did not run at 11:15. The last
entry was 11:09 and not 11:15 as expected.
What are the jobs anacron and cracklib for? Can that be an issue?

[Bug 1106283] Re: [13.04]nautilus crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message() when trying to open file/folder's property dialog as root where file/folder belongs to user with Unicode CJK name.

2013-04-01 Thread Mark Bennison
I had a similar problem too. I was trying to browse to another users
home folder to check disk usage. I launched a root nautilus through gksu
nautilus. When I right clicked on the folder (in this case 'pictures')
and selected properties I got the crash. Aport pointed me to this bug
rather than reporting a new one, so I'm adding a little bit more
information.

Firstly, the user in question is just a simple ASCII name ('betty')
rather than from the extended character set (but, of course, it may not
matter which part of the character set the characters come from). The
dialogue as reported in the original bug appeared, but I wasn't trying
to change the user and as I was running from a terminal it reported the
following:

ERROR:nautilus-properties-window.c:1836:schedule_owner_change_timeout:
assertion failed: (NAUTILUS_IS_FILE (file))

[Bug 1162729] [NEW] mplayer window moving to the left when switching between workspaces

2013-04-01 Thread Albert Vilella
Public bug reported:

I noticed on my Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit that when I have an mplayer window
open on a workspace with the right hand edge of the window at the right
edge of the screen, if I then navigate to other workspaces and go back
to the workspace where the mplayer window is, the window will move a few
pixels to the left, not being placed exactly at the right edge of the
screen anymore. If I move the screen back to the right edge and navigate
through the workspaces again, it will move a few pixels to the left
again.

It only happens with mplayer windows, does not happen with cvlc. Any
ideas on how to solve this annoying glitch?
