The file add dialog respects the settings of your nautilus (standard file
manager in Unity).
If you do not see the hidden directories in the list box you may need to press
STRG+H to toggle this setting of nautilus.

I found source of the bug: python-rfc3986 is to blame (it is used by
oslo-config). Version 0.2.0-2 contains bug which violates RFC3986. It
was fixed in 0.2.2. Version of python-rfc3986 from zesty (0.3.1-2) fix

I have the same issue on different servers. All postgres UIDs and GIDs
are set as 3003. After the change of UID and GID to 199 as Tim Bishop
suggest the errors gone away !

The displays were stacked on top of one another as well in the settings
GUI, hence the reason I didn't catch the issue in the first place.
Not sure this would be considered a bug, maybe just a quirk of the GUI
I don't think it makes much sense for us (packaging guys for
Debian/Ubuntu) to remove inkview from the main package.
Instead I wonder whether inkscape could grow a libinkscape shared
library so that much of the common things shared between inkscape and
inkview don't get duplicated.
