node with lots of small writes to SSDs as in the OP, running on Debian
Stretch in our case with the following kernel:

I was confused by your "versions on Bionic/Queens are good" statement.
Openstack was upgraded to Queens, it's correct, I am using cloud archive
repositories for OpenStack packages, while base system is still based on
Xenial.
So final summary is correct,

OK, so archive.ubuntu.com has 4 and 4 A entries, meaning that
16.04 waits 16 minutes (8 * 2 minutes)
18.04 waits 2 minutes, 2 seconds (2 minutes + 8 * 250 milliseconds)

Public bug reported:
On Ubuntu 18.04, with the "Show Icons" and "Thrash" enabled, trying to

the combined desktop space.
ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04
Package: nautilus 1:3.26.3-0ubuntu4
ProcVersionSignature: Ubun
We might want to update this pkg from
https://releases.pagure.org/libosinfo/osinfo-db-20180514.tar.xz into
Cosmic and then SRU to Bionic at least.
Not sure thou since this is universe :-/
I assume nobody else is volunteering to do this?

This is actually due to an outdated osinfo-db
But honestly this isn't too critical for virt-manager or others, all the aux
data like min memory and such are not changing so you could just use 17.10 or
16.04 and be good.
The only thing this breaks IMHO is the auto-fetching of ISOs from that URL.
apport-collect 1771302 only show "

and nothing else.
