I have the same problem as William Jojo (w-jojo) reported in #54.
The Shibboleth authentication package (libapache2-mod-shib2) in Bionic
Universe depends on libcurl3 (via libxmltooling7). I'm told in bug
#1776489 that this is because upstream Shibboleth hasn't yet released a
version that works

I tested the kernel you provide with the commit 2f500a9d7ff6 reverted
and after many reboot to test stability I have not been able to
reproduce the kernel "panic" with the traceback above (see #1).
I have take care that the "noapic" option wasn't pass to grub (like in
#4) and that
It's seemingly got nothing to do with the hardware.
Today I have tested cosmic image 20180611 on two machines:
* Lenovo X1 Carbon (gen 5)
* Dell XPS 13 (9343)
and the bug persists. In both cases Ubuntu installs fine, but then the
machine never boots.

Thanks, I'll try weston-launch when I get a chance, and I'll try it on
ubuntu 18.04 with intel graphics.
In the meantime, I checked the maximum size a few systems report, and it
does seem to be a property of the graphics hardware and/or driver.
