The patch is the correct approach, but if you grep the whole source code
of HPLIP for "QMessageBox" you find many more places (at least 25) with
this problem.
To the HPLIP developers at HP: This is not a problem of distribution
version support. It is a general bug of incorre
qemu-system-x86 broken when running kernel 4.15.0-36-generic as well -
same result (black screen displays and qemu-system-x86 runs at 100% cpu
indefinitely).
Totally black screen immediately - no bios flashes.
Fully updated Xubuntu 18.04.
