I couldn't find any pointers in germinate output that would indicate it

try loading drm exactly because of that
if the bootup gfx is missing then it seems i915.ko kernel driver is
buggy, or mesa crocus driver if it's just the session hanging

Nvidia driver 550 fails to install any kernel module on Noble.
I've tried installing it multiple times through 'Additional Drivers' and
on the command line. The nvidia 550 packages install successfully but no
kernel module is installed.
This problem does NOT occur with 470,
Confirmed on Nvidia 470. The newer drivers 535 and 545 however do not
have the bug. I couldn't test 550 due to bug 2061738.
