Transmission reports on all the bytes that are written into the sockets'
write buffers, and that are read from their read buffers.
If someone knows how to monitor the bytes as they arrive and as they are
sent -- thus ignoring the noise added to the process by the buffers -- I
would be happy to

this bug affects me too, although I'm on the standard 32bit-Ubuntu Maverick.

package postgresql-8.4 8.4.6-0ubuntu10.04 failed to install/upgrade:
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
After the latest updates this morning, the gnome desktop seemed a lot
more responsive and some of the tiny niggles such as dropdown menus
taking ages before they would work had gone. Unity would not work at
all, and starting with the unity desktop gave a whole lot of things that
failed to start
Very similar (but not identical) error, solved the same way:
