[Bug 706054] Re: package tomcat6 6.0.24-2ubuntu1.5 failed to install/upgrade: sub-processo script post-installation instalado retornou estado de saída de erro 1

2011-01-24 Thread Thierry Carrez
You should purge before reinstalling the package:
sudo apt-get purge tomcat6
sudo apt-get install tomcat6

Please reopen if that doesn't solve it for you.

Yes, like Joshua said, you shouldn't change the init script, but rather
use /etc/default/tomcat6 to influence it.

[Bug 704377] Re: nagios3 requires smbclient, tries to uninstall samba4-clients

2011-01-24 Thread James Page
@Carsten - thanks for pointing this out - I was not aware that only the
preferred alternative had to be in main.

I think that there is sufficient detail in this bug to generate the
required patch; however as it is an update to Lucid it will have to go
through the Stable Release Update process
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates).

[Bug 706828] [NEW] Connection refused for monitor socket on kvm restart

2011-01-24 Thread mixter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

This issue exists with a recently installed 10.04 (lucid) system with
all packages fully updated as of today.

I installed a new Windows 7 guest on localhost (QUEMU) which was then running
fine.
Once I attempted to restart the guest, I expected the guest to start up but got
the followingerror popup:

Error starting domain: monitor socket did not show up.: Connection
refused

Details:

Traceback (most recent call last):

Restarting the system or the kvm-qemu service does not work and the
config files do not seem to be corrupted.

[Bug 104525] Re: default ntp.conf should use pool.ntp.org servers

2011-01-24 Thread Matt Zimmerman
I've added this bug to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TechnicalBoardAgenda for
the next meeting, which is tomorrow, 25 Jan at 1500 UTC. The issues seem
pretty clear from the comments, so I think we can discuss it regardless
of who shows up. Folks who are interested in this issue are encouraged
to attend, but I don't think we need to block on someone stepping
forward to represent at the meeting.

[Bug 706570] Re: JAVA_OPTS defined in /etc/init.d/tomcat6 do not propagate to startup

2011-01-24 Thread Reuben Firmin
This needs to be documented in /etc/init.d/tomcat.

It's a non-standard location given that many developers will be used to
working with the RHEL packages, or directly installing from the tarball.

2011-01-24 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

To help us diagnose this, we need a little more information. How
exactly are you starting the VMs, and how are you restarting them?
Please give us all the full commands and any configuration files you
use. If you are using libvirt, please give us the
/var/log/libvirt/qemu/XXX.log file where XXX is the VM which failed to
restart.

and same on the laptop. ive removed the edgers repo, added yours,
removed qemu-kvm, isntalled it back and same versions as above are on

 something is wrong.

Right, it's because you have the proposed pocket in your sources.list.
I've uploaded a new version to my ppa which will supersede the one in
-proposed. The last 3 builds have been pretty speedy, so hopefully this
will be available within the hour. After that,

apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade

should install qemu-kvm version 0.12.5+noroms-0ubuntu7.1virtio2.diff.

Sorry about that.

Apologies, I had forgotten about /lib/udev/rules.d.
I have removed 52-nut-usbups.rules from /etc/udev/rules.d and it still
works (see log below). There must have been some other configuration problem
initially. I have marked this bug as invalid.
 (...)

quite probably the udevadm trigger line that isn't sufficient to refresh
privileges for already plugged devices.
This won't be noticed if the device's USB cord is plugged after NUT
installation, or if there is a reboot somewhere in the process...

[Bug 706988] [NEW] Major Bug in MySQL 5.1.49 up to 5.1.52

2011-01-24 Thread Christian Koller
Public bug reported:

There is a major bug in MySQL 5.1.49 up to 5.1.52 currently delivered
with Ubuntu 10.10

Example:

DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `foo`;
CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `foo` (
  `a` int(11) DEFAULT NULL,
  `b` int(11) DEFAULT NULL,
  KEY `foo_a` (`a`),
  KEY `foo_b` (`b`)
) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8;

INSERT INTO `foo` (`a`, `b`) VALUES
(1, 1),
(1, 2),
(1, 2),
(1, 2),
(1, 3),
(2, 1);

SELECT a FROM foo where a=1 and b=2; results in 0 rows returned.
The only way to avoid this, would be to remove one of the keys, or make the
columns not null.

Such a faulty version should not be deployed.
It is fixed in 5.1.53 and up.

Ubuntu 10.10

[Bug 706706] Re: Can't use Norton Ghost under Ubuntu KVM

Yes, I was hoping to avoid downloading an iso I'd never heard of.

My question about 32-bit and 64-bit maverick was in a guest, not on the

Yes, I was hoping to avoid downloading an iso I'd never heard of.

Yep, me neither. But it's OK for this case, 'cause we are only using it in a
guest on the virtual machine.

It will be helpful if you can reproduce this bug with a more common iso.

Problem is, the bug is especially regards Norton Ghost, the most well-known,
and widely-used disk cloning tools for windows. Check out:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norton_Ghost

My question about 32-bit and 64-bit maverick was in a guest, not on the
 host.

Ok, now I know what you meant.

Actually, we are not even there yet.

Please do the following.

- create a brand new kvm disk image,

kvm-img create -f qcow hda 6G

- without doing anything else, try to boot Norton Ghost from within kvm:

kvm -hda hda -cdrom /path/to/Hiren.BootCD.8.6.iso -boot d

and see if you can boot into Norton Ghost yourself.

Thanks

[Bug 707099] [NEW] Hostname case mismatch

2011-01-24 Thread BK Box
Public bug reported:

apport bug attached.

When using the hostname for munin-node, a mismatch will occur when
trying to find plugins to match. This happens when the hostname
contains uppercase characters. The code does a lc() on the initial
hostname, but not on the available nodes.

[Bug 707098] [NEW] oom change in 1:5.3p1-3ubuntu5 causes operation not permitted

2011-01-24 Thread Alan Porter
Public bug reported:

WHAT RECENTLY CHANGED

Recently, a security update was pushed out for the openssh-server
package.

The package changes:
-openssh-client 1:5.3p1-3ubuntu4
-openssh-server 1:5.3p1-3ubuntu4
-openssl 0.9.8k-7ubuntu8.4
+openssh-client 1:5.3p1-3ubuntu5
+openssh-server 1:5.3p1-3ubuntu5
+openssl 0.9.8k-7ubuntu8.5

The upgrade makes a change to the /etc/init/ssh.conf file:

$ diff before/etc/init/ssh.conf after/etc/init/ssh.conf
10d9
 expect fork
15c14
 #oom never
---
 oom never
27c26
 exec /usr/sbin/sshd
---
 exec /usr/sbin/sshd -D

THE PROBLEM

I have a virtual machine at Tektonic.net. This service is a virtuozzo
VM. After upgrading to the new 1:5.3p1-3ubuntu5 package, I could no
longer SSH into the VM. I rebooted the machine, and SSH never allowed a
connection (connection refused).

I found this in my /var/log/syslog. The timestamp corresponds to when I
did the upgrade (and I forget whether I manually did a service ssh
restart).

Jan 23 16:04:23 satu init: ssh main process (32282) terminated with status 255
Jan 23 16:04:23 satu init: Failed to spawn ssh pre-start process: unable to set
oom adjustment: Operation not
permitted

WORK-AROUND

I booted the VM in recovery mode, which allows me to directly modify
the files on the VM's disk image. I reverted the /etc/init/ssh.conf to
the way it was in version 1:5.3p1-3ubuntu4 (removing the -D and the
oom never and adding back the expect fork). When I rebooted, the
machine came up normally and I was able to SSH in again.

SYSTEM INFORMATION

I know that Virtuozzo machines are a little different than normal
machines... they are more like a chroot jail than a normal machine.
And I am not sure if those differences are what caused SSH to not
respond. But I have installed the same upgrade on native machines and
on Xen VM's with no problems.

If you need more information about this Virtuozzo VM, I am happy to
provide details.

Re: [Bug 706706] Re: Can't use Norton Ghost under Ubuntu KVM

2011-01-24 Thread Serge Hallyn
Quoting Tong Sun (706...@bugs.launchpad.net):
 Packages

   Installed: 1.0+201101212012
   Candidate: 1.0+201101212012

but the proble remains. Same symptom.

Excellent, so the problem is still in upstream, or is in our
configuration.

Actually it's probably our bios.

Yes, I was hoping to avoid downloading an iso I'd never heard of.

Yep, me neither. But it's OK for this case, 'cause we are only using it in a
 guest on the virtual machine.

An exploit from a guest kernel through an emulated device through the kvm
process into the kvm kernel module isn't inconcievable :)

But I'll go ahead and download that and give it a try tonight. I
suspect we'll need either an update to the bioses, or to use the
multiboot bios.

 Please do the following.

 - create a brand new kvm disk image,

 kvm-img create -f qcow hda 6G

 - without doing anything else, try to boot Norton Ghost from within kvm:

kvm -hda hda -cdrom /path/to/Hiren.BootCD.8.6.iso -boot d

and see if you can boot into Norton Ghost yourself.

Will try tonight.

[Bug 707098] Re: oom change in 1:5.3p1-3ubuntu5 causes operation not permitted

2011-01-24 Thread Alan Porter
Looking a little deeper, it looks like OpenSSH has had this oom never
line ever since Ubuntu 10.04 came out, and that Virtuozzo containers
have had to modify this file all along. I never saw it before because
my Virtuozzo provider had a pristine 10.04 image that they deployed -- I
assume, with the oom never line commented out. So this was the first
time that the package had been upgraded on my system, and it asked me if
I wanted to keep my changes or install the package maintainer's
version.

So maybe this is not so much of a bug in OpenSSH as it is a quirk in
Virtuozzo (that I did not know about at the time of upgrade). Not
knowing what this oom never option is all about, I can not make that
call.

On a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04.1, after upgrading the offer libc6
upgrade, on the next reboot the root fs can't be properly unmounted
(mount: / is busy). This causes fsck to run on boot and of course some

The fsck run, and the orphaned inodes it finds are holding me back

[Bug 706811] [NEW] unity dualscreen handling

2011-01-24 Thread Michael Flaig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Upgraded to natty for testing and filing bugs.

Unity Desktop does not seem to handle dual / multiscreen settings like
gnome did. With Gnome the Xinerama information is used and the second
monitor is used as an extended monitor. panels are not spread over both
screens. Not so with unity where the top panel spreads over both
monitors. This is with nvidia-current - haven't tried with different
driver. This is not desirable as having ubuntu menu and log off button
around 5000px away from each other sucks IMHO ;-)

System has a nvidia gtx 460 with two 30 screens attached.
Nvidia driver is special here, it does use TwinView and emulales xinerama
settings

Anyway problem does not exist with maximizing windows. They do only
maximize on the one monitor, not over both so I supposed the
xineramainfo config is in fact read...

Relevant Config Part is present:
   Option TwinViewXineramaInfoOrder DFP-0
see also on bottom

Haven't found any design guide that would cover how unity is supposed to
handle multi-screen systems, so this bug should also serve as a start
for thoughts an this topic.

There are basically a few scenarios that I can think of:
- Laptop + Projector (clone or extended? I prefer extended to be able to have
my notes on my main laptop screen. leaving the problem of seeing the slides as
well to the presentation application. Wtih extended desktops showing
applications (i.e. terminals is a a pain in the a** - i agree - maybe some
compiz hack can mirror single applications to extended screens? till then vnc?)

- Laptop + screen (usually extends the desktop - user should be able to
choose where to have panels and menu through primary screen... should
work with open source drivers out of the box - nvidia - problem)

- Desktop with 2 or more screens (Probably it would be best to have it
like before in gnome and macosx which however means that the global menu
is always an the main screen and may be far away. Otherwise one could
think of having unity on all screens (top panel) to hold the menubar
individually for each screen. But extended screens should not have the
indicators and probably not the task switcher (or should it?).

There is still potential for the ui designers and usability guys to
figure this out IMHO :)

Hopefully have addressed this right. Thanks in advance for looking into
this.

Here my relevant xorg snippet.

/etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Section Monitor
Identifier Monitor0
VendorName Unknown
ModelName Samsung SyncMaster
HorizSync 49.3 - 98.5

Device Device1
MonitorMonitor1
DefaultDepth24
Option TwinView 0
Option metamodes DFP-2: nvidia-auto-select +0+0

EndSection

One more side note: Could someone push nvidia to support xrandr so we
can use the normal display settings instead of having to configure
manual xorg.conf with nvidia-settings (which bugs you most of the time
by having to restart X) ? ...

You should purge before reinstalling the package:
sudo apt-get purge tomcat6
sudo apt-get install tomcat6

Please reopen if that doesn't solve it for you.

[Bug 706814] [NEW] several logs not populated

2011-01-24 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rsyslog

natty i386 updated

since a week or so, several log files are not populated (/var/log/):
daemon, debug, messages user.log (they are empty)

looking at syslog, i see:

kernel: Kernel logging (proc) stopped.
rsyslogd: [origin software=rsyslogd swVersion=4.6.4 x-pid=933
x-info=http://www.rsyslog.com;] exiting on signal 15.
kernel: imklog 4.6.4, log source = /proc/kmsg started.
rsyslogd: [origin software=rsyslogd swVersion=4.6.4 x-pid=967
x-info=http://www.rsyslog.com;] (re)start
rsyslogd: rsyslogd's groupid changed to 102
rsyslogd: rsyslogd's userid changed to 101
rsyslogd-2039: Could no open output pipe '/dev/xconsole' [try
http://www.rsyslog.com/e/2039 ]

As rsyslog-2039 suggest a typo somewhere and complaint about
/dev/xconsole, i've verified and found that : /dev/console exist but not
/dev/xconsole, so that might be the problem.

[Bug 355232] Re: acpi-cpufreq/powernow-k8 should not be built-in into the kernel image

2011-01-24 Thread slayerdme
If anyone at the Kernel Team reads this, could they please expand on the
comment cpufreq: it's hard to do in userspace?

If I compile the current kernel myself, with just the one difference in
which acpi-cpufreq is a module, everything works perfectly. Just check
PPA for linux-phc if you don't believe me.

This would be such a small change with a large impact!
