[Bug 776650] Re: Build qemu-kvm with native VDE support

2014-10-28 Thread Sebastian Unger
What's the status on this? I've been wanting this for some time now too
and the comments left here are not very clear as to what the actual
stumbling block is for why this isn't fixed yet.

Connecting n VMs together without connecting them to the host and without being
root is possible in only two ways at the moment:
- Using UDP MC sockets which are terribly inefficient (A file transfer between
two VMs through ssh managed to load my machine up to 2% CPU. The same transfer
via the user network between VM and host loads it up to about 50% as it should
(4 cores))
- Using VDE which currently requires me to recompile qemu/kvm.

Can anybody from the server team or whoever knows about these processes
comment on what it would take to get this progressed?

[Bug 1258003] Re: DiG crashes on +nssearch with +tcp [Outdated in Ubuntu repo]

2014-10-28 Thread Joshua Rogers
Just an update on this: It is patched in Ubuntu 14.04.1.

I have identified another bug in DiG which is yet to be patched in any
versions of bind(I only just reported it now), which affects those that
use ipv6.

So, perhaps before pushing anything, wait for ISC to fix the most recent bug I
identified.

[Bug 1381537] Re: Dovecot version in precise too old to switch off SSLv3 protocol for poodle fix

2014-10-28 Thread Chris J Arges
Hello Benjamin, or anyone else affected,

Accepted dovecot into precise-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dovecot/1:2.0.19-0ubuntu2.2 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1382190] Re: LXCs assigned IPs by MAAS DHCP lack DNS PTR entries

2014-10-28 Thread Graham Binns
Using $GENERATE statements, I get the following results:

/16 dynamic range: 10.0.0.1 - 10.0.255.255
 - Reverse Zone: http://paste.ubuntu.com/8721352/
 - Forward Zone: http://paste.ubuntu.com/8721358/

/24 dynamic range: 10.0.0.1 - 10.0.0.255
 - Reverse zone: http://paste.ubuntu.com/8721363/
 - Forward zone: http://paste.ubuntu.com/8721366/

/25 dynamic range: 10.0.0.128 - 10.0.0.255
 - Reverse zone: http://paste.ubuntu.com/8721391/
 - Forward zone: http://paste.ubuntu.com/8721403/

Weird dynamic range: 10.0.0.1 - 10.0.1.33:
 - Reverse zone: http://paste.ubuntu.com/8721501/
 - Forward zone: http://paste.ubuntu.com/8721503/

Note that there's what looks like a weird inefficiency in the /24 (1-255) and
others. That's because I'm using netaddr.IPRange() internally to create an IP
range to work from, and then converting that into a set of IPNetworks to ensure
we get full coverage of weird corner-case networks (and so that I don't have to
do all the maths myself). Thing is, .1-.255, although we identify it as a /24
by sight, isn't actually a /24; it's only 254 addresses, so IPRange breaks it
down into individual CIDRs rather than just covering it with a /24. It's a
weirdness we can live with, I think. For a /16/ we still see only 260-odd
$GENERATES as opposed to 65,000 which I'd call an improvement :).

[Bug 1377924] Re: ecryptfs fails to mount (Unable to link the KEY_SPEC_USER_KEYRING into the KEY_SPEC_SESSION_KEYRING)

2014-10-28 Thread joseph spitz
I am also getting this error, and like Eugene says, it seems to be
dependent on the environment in which the mount command is executed.

I attempted to mount from inside a tmux session, and the mount failed.
I detached from the tmux session, issued the very same mount command in
a plain ssh terminal, and the mount succeeded.

[Bug 1385045] Re: Grub fails during upgrade due to lingering BTRFS information on drive

2014-10-28 Thread jdfalk
Using wipefs you can see that it has the remnants of btrfs on the raw
/dev/sda because I am an idiot.

root@build:~# wipefs /dev/sda
offset type

0x1fedos [partition table]

0x10040 btrfs [filesystem]
 LABEL: jf-002-001
 UUID: 50f898e6-febe-486e-b8c9-bf728d7935ac

It would be useful if during the upgrade grub checks for this and spits out a
more useful warning at least and tells you to run wipefs -o 0x10040 /dev/xxx to
eliminate the fs. Grub updated but now it says:
/usr/sbin/grub-probe: warning: Couldn't find physical volume `(null)'. Some
modules may be missing from core image..

[Bug 1386534] [NEW] kernel dependent deterministic view crash on X startup

2014-10-28 Thread Péter Prőhle
Public bug reported:

kernel 3.13.0-37 and 3.16.0-23, but not kernel 3.13.0-36

The phenomenon: just when the user interface starts at the end of the
Ununtu startup, the screen reamins in one solid color (very light grey,
this is the everage of my colors), except for the topmost 3-4 scan
lines, where one can see some sort of vibrating content. Sometimes there
is a 1-3 seconds of normal operation just at the start, when Ctrl-Alt-F2
works, and swithing there one can work in the character terminal
forever. But as soon as the disorder in the X view appears, even the
Ctrl-Alt-F2 console change does not work visually, however a blindly
stroken Ctr-Alt-Del is correctly executed.

What I know: (1) on the core i3 based laptop there is no trace of this
kind of view crash, while in case of the Phenom x6 1100t and Radeon HD
6570 based desktop machine the problem is fully deterministic. (2) the
problem is distro independet, i.e.: I have it with Ubuntu 14.04 +
kernel 3.13.0-37-generic, and also with Ubuntu 14.10 +
3.16.0-23-generic, and I do NOT have it with Ubuntu 14.04 + kernel
3.13.0-36-generic, and also with Ubuntu 14.10 + 3.13.0-36-generic. (3)
In case of Ubuntu 14.04 in average every second or third boot gave a 1-3
seconds of grace period when I could escape to Ctrl-Alt-F2, while in
case of Ubuntu 14.10 there is no such a short time slot when I could
escape. (4) my configuration is set to fall into my only user account
directly, I will do experiments, whether the problem is there, if the
startup is without falling into an account.

If I can, I will apport log files with produced with the
3.16.0-23-generic kernel as well, not only with the 3.13.0-36-generic.

I try to send the remaining information after my work day, now I have to
leave, sorry.

 Scripts to handle /var/log/dump

These are the preinst and postrm scripts to create and remove
 /var/log/dump
scripts that is where the logs used by ppc64-diag packages are saved.

These two files solve a problem if the directory doesn't exists, as:

Error accessing output dir: /var/log/dump (2: No such file or
 directory)

This could be also found on the following git tree
 https://github.com/leitao/ppc64-diag.git (Commit

[Bug 1386542] [NEW] FLAC instruments in sample project don't play

2014-10-28 Thread Alex Peters
Public bug reported:

$ dpkg -s lmms | grep Version:
Version: 1.0.0+stable-0ubuntu1

Included sample project /usr/share/lmms/projects/CoolSongs/Zakarra-
59_Degrees.mmpz features several tracks that use FLAC-based samples.

On my system, these tracks are silent and when I open the settings for
those instruments, the waveform for the sample shows up as multi-
coloured noise (pic attached).

Probably some FLAC dependency needs to be added to the LMMS package.

Sometime it will reconnect on its own and at other times I have to
manually reconnect. I have Windows 8.1 running on a different
partition in the same machine. Wifi works fine in Windows 8.1. So,
this seems to be an issue with Ubuntu.

[Bug 1386255] Re: devhelp and many other apps crash with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke() due to overlay-scrollbars

2014-10-28 Thread Marius Gedminas
Details about my GDB session:

- gdb gnome-calculator (easy to trigger the bug: click on the titlebar
dropdown; bonus: doesn't hold a keyboard/mouse grab when it gets frozen by gdb)
- 'run'
- click on the titlebar dropdown, see the window freeze
- gdb shows a segfault at 0x0
- 'bt' shows the stack trace; frame #1 is g_closure_invoke; the closure pointer
is the same for every crash
- higher up in the stack you see it was called by gtk_grab_notify()
- set a conditional breakpoint 'b g_closure_invoke if closure == 0x'
- 'run' to restart
- click on the titlebar dropdown again
- the breakpoint trips three times; first two are benign so hit 'cont' twice;
the third one causes the crash
- single-stepping with 'n' and 's' shows that you end up in
g_type_class_meta_marshal() for GtkScrollbar, with a callback at some address
(0x7fffeeb3abe0)
- gdb was unable to resolve that address to a symbol, but /proc/$(pidof
gnome-calculator)/maps shows it was in the range mapped to
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-3.0/modules/liboverlay-scrollbar.so
