[Bug 1654817] [NEW] package libgtk2.0-bin 2.24.30-4ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 2

2017-01-07 Thread Christopher Morrow
Public bug reported:

When I attempted to install libgtk2.0-0 it said something along the
lines of needing to remove the old package 2.24.30-4ubuntu2 (I think, I
closed the terminal window), and I was getting a permission denied
despite running as root. Putting SELinux into permissive mode allowed
the install to take place. I think this might be an issue with SELinux
policy for Ubuntu.

Thanks, Mike!

I removed the octave files manually from /usr/local/bin, then installed
octave from the repository. Seems to work fine now.

Best regards

2017-01-07 Thread intuiter
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1574347 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574347

I started having this problem after a regular package upgrade.
Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Current Network Manager version in my system: 1.2.2

I hope it gets fixed in future versions. For now the workaround is to
run "systemctl restart network-manager.service" after every reboot.

[Bug 1470030] Re: "gpg-agent --daemon" stays after login, causing ecryptfs to not get unmounted

2017-01-07 Thread Max
I do not know if I will struggle with the bug further,
so I leave here some more notes.

Systemd does not track the process "(pam-sd)" that calls pam_close_session()
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/blob/v229/src/core/execute.c#L895

Sometimes the process reaches setgroups() or setgid() within private_dir().
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ecryptfs/ecryptfs/trunk/view/head:/src/pam_ecryptfs/pam_ecryptfs.c#L370
The result is "Operation not permitted". In other cases it dies earlier.

I am curious if systemd design allows any non-trivial actions in
pam_close_session().
Perhaps the issue may be alleviated by calling mount.ecryptfs_private
from a systemd's unit file.

[Bug 1654811] [NEW] getlive no longer works with Hotmail

2017-01-07 Thread Bill Duetschler
Public bug reported:

Due to changes Microsoft made in MSN Live/MSN Hotmail a couple of years
ago, getlive no longer works. According to discussion at
https://sourceforge.net/p/getlive/news/ by the project's author, Jos De
Laender, "There's no way I can reasonably patch GetLive further to fetch
mail. So I guess that's the end of GetLive."

I can confirm, I have tested it with a Hotmail account I spun up for
testing purposes.

Ubuntu should probably drop this package from all distributions of
Ubuntu, as it's no longer functional or maintained. As far as packages
that use getlive, it's one of the "recommends" for mail-notification.

Unfortunately I don't see a suitable replacement out there.

[Bug 1504688] Re: fsck runs on every boot (clean install, single ext4 filesystem)

2017-01-07 Thread owise1
Hi, I also appear to have this bug. Does not materially impact boot
time as is only involves the EFI system partition but it is a pain as
when I switch to any virtual terminal I see that boot message but do not
get a cmd prompt.

Clean install of 16.04 on an Intel NUC with ssd drive.

[Bug 1569651] Re: akonadi startup fails with unknown variable innodb_additional_mem_pool_size [Xenial 16.04]

2017-01-07 Thread Rob Bruce
I got the same error log message when starting KMail after upgrading
from Kubuntu 14.04 to 16.04. (Of course, something KMail-related getting
broken in an update isn't surprising anymore, email being bleeding-edge
and all . . . )

2017-01-08T02:29:26.960676Z 0 [ERROR] unknown variable
'innodb_additional_mem_pool_size=1M'
2017-01-08T02:29:26.960682Z 0 [ERROR] Aborting

Checking mysql-global.conf I found:

# memory pool InnoDB uses to store data dictionary information and other
internal data structures (default:8M)
# Deprecated in MySQL >= 5.6.3, removed in 5.7 (works in MariaDB)
# innodb_additional_mem_pool_size=8M

Note that not only is the innodb_additial_mem_pool_size already
commented out in the existing version of the config file, its value is
8M, not the 1M in the log!

Deleting the line entirely allowed KMail to start -- so far, so good.

Sorry, but could someone tell me which package or kernel I have to
install to get the fix for this problem? I am on Mint 18.1, and I
encounter the bug when using 4.8 kernels (but not 4.4, which are the
currently recommended kernels for Mint). The GRUB / kernel boot string
workaround does work for me, but I'd rather have the proper fix. Thanks.

[Bug 220005] Re: xrdp 0.6.1-2 doesn't work via sesman-X11rdp

2017-01-07 Thread John Moser
We can probably easily fix this by providing weston-rdp (from weston,
which currently doesn't supply weston-rdp) and creating a replacement
command for X11rdp to start a weston-rdp compositor with Wayland-X, thus
giving an X display rendering to RDP.

It looks like xrdp used to build X11rdp by building a new Xorg server
that wrote out to RDP. Since Weston simply provides that, getting that
into the Weston package would be simpler and less-insane.

[Bug 1651518] infinity parsing patch

2017-01-07 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment on attachment From ru...@us.ibm.com 2017-01-07 21:12 EDT---

It looks like the commit referenced earlier also builds upon the addition of
the config_parse_tasks_max() function added in commit 6300502b .

The following example patch (based on systemd_229-4ubuntu14) focuses on
just the UserTasksMax "infinity" parsing.

mkdir("/tmp/.xrdp/xrdp-sesman-dP1LGR", 0700) = 0
stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=3545, ...}) = 0
write(3, "[20170107-20:25:15] [CORE ] erro"..., 76) = 76

write(3, "[20170107-20:25:15] [DEBUG] errn"..., 77) = 77

It seems xrdp requires X11rdp for this to work. That's why you get a
"no such file or directory" error.

[Bug 1654800] [NEW] Nautilus stopped working

2017-01-07 Thread el_gallo_azul

current applications to a state such that I can restart the computer
without losing or forgetting anything.

[Bug 1522675] Re: Warning messages about unsandboxed downloads

2017-01-07 Thread Steve Langasek
>From what I gathered, msttcorefonts and flashplugin-nonfree

These packages invoke update-notifier for the downloading; reassigning.

I don't see what value this sandbox user is providing, however, and why
apt needs to be so noisy about it. Is this about not running the
network client code as root? Clearly, anything downloaded is going to
be handled as root once it's there.

[Bug 1654795] Re: Clang 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7 can't compile a C++11 program with std::bind

2017-01-07 Thread Jeffrey Walton
I don't have a minimal, reduced case to reproduce it. But here's how to
reproduce it using Botan:

  git clone git://github.com/randombit/botan
  cd botan

  ./configure.py --cc=clang --cc-bin=/usr/bin/clang++-3.{5|6|7}
  make -j 4

When make gets to the file src/lib/tls/tls_handshake_hash.cpp, the
compile will fail.

[Bug 1653323] Re: Severe screen flicker on Unity when terminal maximized

2017-01-07 Thread Damon Lynch
I just tried the nouveau driver in 4.9.0-11-generic. Now while it didn't
flicker, what it did do was exhibit the very start of the problem, which
manifests as subtle vertical bars in the top panel's dark brown bar. So
it may not be an Nvidia problem, but a kernel problem, that may have
been fixed in 4.10.

[Bug 1654795] [NEW] Clang 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7 can't compile a C++11 program with std::bind

2017-01-07 Thread Jeffrey Walton
Public bug reported:

I'm working on Ubuntu 16 x86_64, fully patched. I'm trying to compile
Jack Lloyd's Botan library. Its a C++11 TLS library. It can be found at
https://github.com/randombit/botan.

The compile fails with Clang 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 (3.8 is OK). The library
fails with the error below.

I found a GCC error report about it, but it was marked as Invalid
because its Clang's bug:
https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=71809.

I was not able to find a LLVM bug report for the issue.

According to Andrew Pinksi from the 71809 bug, here's the discussion
about it on CFE-dev: http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/cfe-
dev/2016-March/047761.html.

The short of it is, Ubuntu ships with GCC 6.0. All the affected Clang's
need to be compiled against GCC 6.0 and not the GCC 5.3 its currently
compiled against.

Please rebuild Clang 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 against the GCC 6.0 gear.

[Bug 1522675] Re: Needless scary warning: Download is performed unsandboxed as root: _apt user not allowed

2017-01-07 Thread Julian Andres Klode
The message won't be removed. It's worded as good as it can be now.

Maintainer scripts using apt-helper to download stuff (or clients using
libapt-pkg) should be fixed to use proper permissions on the directories
so the _apt user can write files (best create a temporary directory I'd
say owned by _apt, download to that).

For interactive use, the message appears in a very limited set of
circumstances. Namely, "download" and "source" run as root (maybe
"changelog", depending on your tmpfs setup, not sure). Running these
commands as root does not make that much sense anyway, especially
source.

So if users can reproduce this with a specific package that uses our
tools, please add a task for that tool. From the apt side, this is
working as intended.

[Bug 1653323] Re: Severe screen flicker on Unity when terminal maximized

2017-01-07 Thread Damon Lynch
Running the mainline kernel 4.10-rc2 and the nouveau driver on 17.04
means the bug does not appear; it does appear with the Nvidia 375 driver
in the regular 17.04 kernel. The 4.10-rc2 kernel is significant because
in the 4.9 and earlier kernels, the mouse cursor does not move from the
top left corner of the screen.

[Bug 1654789] [NEW] Race condition on rendering the time

2017-01-07 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 17.04 dev with xscreensaver 5.34-2ubuntu1 and on
locking the screen there is a race condition in which the digits of the
date render multiple numbers. For example if this issue happens the
right digit of the seconds seems to show 2 different numbers which looks
then distorted. This issue happens very rarely as (besides from being
happened right before creating this ticket) I remember to have not seen
this issue for a while (maybe over 1 or 2 years).

[Bug 1654782] Re: Can not pair with bluetooth headphones

2017-01-07 Thread DimanNe
** Description changed:

I can not pair computer and Bluetooth headset (sennheiser momentum 2.0
wireless aebt).
(If it matters, I *CAN* pair and use it on another laptop with Linux and with
my android smartphone. So headset itself is working well.)

Here is how I try to pair:
  $ bluetoothctl
  [NEW] Controller 54:27:1E:33:4B:85 impedance [default]
  [bluetooth]# power on
  Changing power on succeeded
  [bluetooth]# agent on
  Agent registered
  [bluetooth]# default-agent
  Default agent request successful
  [bluetooth]# scan on
  Discovery started
  [CHG] Controller 54:27:1E:33:4B:85 Discovering: yes
  [bluetooth]# scan on

I tried to put my headset in pairing mode just before and after issuing
"scan on" command. It ends up with nothing - I waited for 3-5 minutes.
- For example, my smartphone pairs with the headset in 5-15 seconds, my
- laptop pairs with the headset in about 30 seconds.
+ For example, my smartphone pairs with the headset within 5-15 seconds,
+ my laptop pairs with the headset within about 30 seconds.

[Bug 850895] Re: [nouveaufb] Plymouth refuses to show on boot, only at shutdown (mountall error messages)

2017-01-07 Thread Tuxedo Joe
This bug seems to be dependant on the user to have a encrypted home
folder or not. If not encrypted installing themes works, if encrypted
only shutdown works. So it seems to me like ecryptfs is somehow blocking
initramfs when reading the theme.

I choose udev package even if the bug is when I use nautilus.
For example, lsub is freezing too when I plug the watch.

[Bug 1654770] Re: Connection smart watch through USB crashed

2017-01-07 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1654770/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1651774] Re: Please remove check for RPM install

2017-01-07 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for reporting.

I came across this bug report and must admit I'm a bit puzzled by it. It
looks like this package was removed from recent releases [1] and the
only one currently listed is Ubuntu 15.04 which has reached End Of Life.
So it doesn't look like this issue is affecting any currently supported
Ubuntu releases. Could you please add which release where the issue
occurs?

Then again, I'm not that familiar with partner packages so it might be
that they have some additional support.

[Bug 1654782] [NEW] Can not pair with bluetooth headphones

2017-01-07 Thread DimanNe
Public bug reported:

I can not pair computer and Bluetooth headset (sennheiser momentum 2.0 wireless
aebt).
(If it matters, I *CAN* pair and use it on another laptop with Linux and with
my android smartphone. So headset itself is working well.)

Here is how I try to pair:
$ bluetoothctl
[NEW] Controller 54:27:1E:33:4B:85 impedance [default]
[bluetooth]# power on
Changing power on succeeded
[bluetooth]# agent on
Agent registered
[bluetooth]# default-agent
Default agent request successful
[bluetooth]# scan on
Discovery started
[CHG] Controller 54:27:1E:33:4B:85 Discovering: yes
[bluetooth]# scan on

I tried to put my headset in pairing mode just before and after issuing
"scan on" command. It ends up with nothing - I waited for 3-5 minutes.
For example, my smartphone pairs with the headset in 5-15 seconds, my
laptop pairs with the headset in about 30 seconds.

[Bug 1654779] [NEW] installer crashes on grub installation (forced UEFI install) calling 'grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed

2017-01-07 Thread Someone Else
Public bug reported:

Tried a clean install of 16.04 from a USB stick in UEFI mode. Got a warning,
that another system (Win10) was installed on another disk in legacy mode and
might not boot, if I used force UEFI mode. Commenced with forced UEFI install
and at the end it stated:
errors were encountered wjile processing
grub-efi-amd64-signed
shim-signed
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
info: Calling 'apt-install grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed.
But I guess that's in the logfile as well.
A sudo apt-get install grub-efi-amd64-signed seems to have been successful. But
I'll have to reboot to see. Also I did sudo apt-get install shim-signed.
Hope you can find the bug. If you can't I'll gladly assist you trying to
recreate the same situation using an ssh oder whatever you prefere.

[Bug 1580732] Re: wireless keyboard - repeating characters unattended

2017-01-07 Thread Bjørn Næss
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1579190 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1579190

I just entered the same problem with: "[[C^" echoes continuously in all
VTs, but not Terminal.

Some places this where said to be Logitech related. I bought another
keyboard today and the issue is still present. It even continously
repeat when there are no keyboard attached.

This is a stationery PC with Ubuntu 16.04 and the problem suddenly
starteds when developing with IntelliJ. Now the computer is useless.

[Bug 1649453] Re: systemd starts postfix before resolver

2017-01-07 Thread Scott Kitterman
Now that the upload I had pending is done, I did look into this a bit
further.

By adding the After=network-online.target override, when I look at the
output of systemd-analyze critical-chain with and without an equivalent
Wants= postfix is starting after network-online.target.

I didn't look explicitly at the different with/without for systemd-
resolved (since it's not active on my test system), but I don't see what
difference it makes.

I'm inclined to leave it as is pending some explanation of what
practical difference adding the Wants= would have.

[Bug 1647498] Re: QCA6174 working but with some erros

2017-01-07 Thread brunomelniic
I changed the distro version, from 16.04 to 16.10 of Ubuntu Mate.
In this version, the wifi works from the start.
The kernel version running is 4.8.0-32-generic

Do you want me to run any other test and send results?

[Bug 1654777] [NEW] zram-config control by maximum amount of RAM usage

2017-01-07 Thread John Moser
Public bug reported:

This is a request for comment regarding adjusting zram-config to limit
memory consumption, rather than to limit amount of memory to be swapped.

Under the current script (in 16.10), about 1/2 of RAM can be swapped to
zram. This may consume 1/6 of RAM space or 1/4 of RAM space (3:1 and
2:1 compression, respectively), for example, depending on actual
compression performance.

This modification instead says each zram device can use up a portion of
RAM. Instead of specifying 1/2 RAM as the swap area, it specifies 100%.
On a machine with 8GB of RAM, for example, it will expose 8GB of swap;
and it will limit zram to consuming 4GB of real RAM to store the
compressed data.

Because zram generally gets 3:1 to 4:1, it would be more-realistic to
create 1.5-2 times the zswap space. For example, the 8GB system would
have 12G of swap space, but only use up to 4G of memory for it. At 3:1
compression, that would use all of the zram swap space.

Essentially, the actual size of the device limits how much uncompressed
RAM you can swap out; while the mem_limit limits the amount of RAM the
zram device can use, including the compressed data and the control data.

Further Discussion:

Note that, in my experience, zram is fast. I've run a 1GB server with
this script and gone 350MB into zram swap, with 40MB of available
memory, just by starting up a Gitlab docker container and logging in:

Tasks: 184 total, 1 running, 183 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
%Cpu(s): 6.0 us, 2.6 sy, 0.0 ni, 90.7 id, 0.0 wa, 0.0 hi, 0.3 si, 0.3 st
KiB Mem : 1016220 total,76588 free, 826252 used, 113380 buff/cache
KiB Swap: 1016216 total, 666920 free, 349296 used.45324 avail Mem

This got up as far as 700MB of Swap used in just a few clicks through
the application. It still returned commit diffs and behaved as if it
was running on ample RAM--I did this during a migration from a system
with 32GB RAM, over 10GB of which is disk cache.

As such, I see no problem essentially doubling the amount of reachable
RAM--and I do exactly that on 1GB and 2GB servers running large working
sets, with active working sets larger than physical RAM space, and with
vm.swappiness set to 100.

Note that swapping 5:1 even if you are getting 5:1 ratios would involve
a lot of swapping and thus a lot of LZO computation. For this reason,
more-than-double might be unwise in a generic sense. A doubling of RAM
is using 50% of RAM space to store 1.5x the swap--so 1.5GB zram devices
with 0.5GB mem_limit and at least 3:1 compression average.

The script I have provided allocates at most 50% to store at most 100%.
It is likely to represent a multiplication of working space by 1.6.

I have provided the entire script, rather than a diff, as a diff is
about the same size.
