I have installed ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS and have as kernel 5.10.7 and the
ath11 enabled. I am unable to get the wifi working on my xps 15 9500.
The bluetooth works.

I can confirm the bug. When recently re-enabling this feature, I had tested
only using encrypted attachments which decrypt to plain text.
The bug occurs if the attachment decrypts to binary data.

Tried to install 2021-01-17... Failure. But I could get into terminal
mode. What to add to complete the installation.

It will be great if you can help out to verify this.
To do so for Xenial, you will need to install Ubuntu Xenial and enable
the "proposed" pocket [1] on it, then dist-upgrade to the latest kernel
and reboot to see if it works.

firmware I posted about in 2019. There are newer firmware versions
available on that github which I haven't tried, so if you find a better
solution or a firmware which doesn't cause errors, please let us all
know.

Unfortunately, Xenial is so old that neither systemtap nor elfutils will
build there without some work, and since Xenial reaches its end of
(normal) life in just a few months, I don't think it's worth putting in
the time for it.
