The package available in the PPA fixed the issue.
** Description changed:
[Impact]
- * Using monospace fonts, some parts of the glyphs might not be visible
-(this is especially evident using some monospsace fonts, there the
-underscore is not visible).
+ * Using monospace fonts,
the varnish plugin (and libs) are not reliable (and stable ABI wise) so
it was droped from package in Debian (and so also in ubuntu if not
anybody patches the ubuntu package to ship it anyways).
** Also affects: nagios-plugins-contrib (Debian)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New

With recent, I was not talking about 20.04, which is NOT recent. See
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nagios-plugins-contrib for newer
releases.
(speaking with my debian maintainers hat on, I'm not feeling responsible
for fixing bugs in ubuntu)

You received this bug notification because
Setting fkms instead of kms bypasses the problem and is a solution at the
moment.
However, the error with kms is not fixed.
Ubuntu Budgie 21.10 offers this change from kms to fkms with the tool "Budgie
ARM and Pi" and you don’t have to edit the entry via config.txt.
