From what I can recall of the meeting there was a more general idea of
stopping all systemd user services and cronjobs tha could fall over
during a distribution upgrade. For this specific problem we can either

I'm also experiencing this bug. OS: Linux Mint 21.3 Xfce.
I have an external monitor whose native resolution is 5120×1440 px. I
earlier used it in a reduced resolution of 3840×1080 px, before figuring
out how to get the native resolution. The command xrandr still lists the
3840×1080 mode I added
