The proposed workaround works for me for the 470 using gt710 card, but I
feel that it slows the windows rendering while moving them (like a slow
FPS).

I just ran into this same issue. I have a server that started out on
16.04. I just did "do-release-upgrade -m server" to upgrade to 18.04 and
then again to 20.04. After the 20.04 upgrade finished the server would
no longer boot with the exact same error described here:

New version of gnome tweaks should be here soon, i guess they will fix it.
When you get something went wrong screen try clicking ctrl+alt+t and terminal
should open, after that type gnome-tweaks in terminal. Tweaks gui should open
and then just change everything to default and reboot.
