This works for me with Firefly on a Intrepid server and intrepid
desktop. The DAAP spec had changed previously which may broken it when
using two different versions.
The only other thing I can think of is that you may have uninstalled or
disabled avahi service?

is still a bug that it broke though, but in an unsupported release).

machine was basically going to be reinstalled anyway I put grub2 on the
mbr and reinstalled the latest kernels. It now works, so grub2 *might*
have this fixed (or maybe I did something else). +1 for grub2 in
jaunty.

I just used update-manager-core -d to upgrade to Intrepid from 8.04 Hardy.
Upon rebooting the system didn't come back up.
Grub was stuck on
Error 18: Selected Cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS
This error only comes up with the new 2.6.27
