Right, in Hardy there is a compiz.desktop launcher in /etc/xdg/autostart
which launches Compiz. This seems to be different in Intrepid. There
seems to be a lot of extra GConf keys for gnome-session. There is a
GConf key called:
/desktop/gnome/session/required-components/windowmanager

By trying what I just suggested above in my Intrepid virtual machine, I
can get Compiz to attempt to start automatically on every session now
(obviously, it fails because I don't have the graphics hardware). My
~/.xsession-errors file shows this happening.

Thats not a proper fix. You shouldn't need to use sudo to open Alacarte,
and is actually a very bad idea. You could end up making your whole menu
inaccessible by messing up the permissions in your home folder.
Please try to run alacarte normally from the terminal and post any error
messages, as
IOError: [Errno 13] Permissão negada:
'/home/sapien/.config/menus/applications.menu'
The crash is actually a permissions error, most likely as a consequence
of opening Alacarte with sudo. To correct it, please try the following:
sudo chown -R $USER:$USER ~/.config

dpkg runs the old prerm script which tries to stop winbind. This
procedure fails due to the syntax error in the old init script, which
prevents the upgrade.

It unfortunately appears that this bug is not yet resolved. Does this
issue still exist in the Hardy Heron 8.04 LTS release? If so, the
Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Alpha2 is also scheduled for release today. It will

hggdh: If Evolution is aborting because of the memory error, then I
don't think Apport will catch that. It currently doesn't generate crash
reports for SIGABRT, so Frank would probably need to obtain a backtrace
with all the relevant debug symbols installed.

I can't confirm this. Since you locked the packages, have you right-
clicked on the Update Manager icon and clicked on 'Check for updates'?
Once I do this, the icon disappears when all the 'upgradeable' packages
are locked
