1) I think ndiswrapper should fork sometime so a crash does not affect
all pages (like apache does in some worker threads: simply fork for each
10 applets or for each different applet(even better) ). when forking for
different applets, we can als

same.
What makes me think that the problem may not be related is that this
error appears once in a while (the last time was on Jan 1st, then it
fixed itself one or two days later), then again yesterday (but it did
not fixed it

Today I reinstalled Ubuntu 9.04 and everything worked right out of the
box. Then I updated system to latest available version (always inside
9.04) and again it worked as expected.
After that I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 and found same problem as described

just wanted to mention, that I am experiencing the same problem: my e220
modem doesn't work with the new kernel 2.6.31-14.48 (amd64), but works
fine with the old 2.6.28 (which I furtunately kept).
