I have exactly the same problem with Intel HD graphics and core i5-650
processor. Freezes sometimes, same error messages. I had to switch to
Xrender. With Xrender, there is no more freezes, but all opengl-related
effects are disabled :(.

In Unicode U+1E9E ẞ has for lowercase U+00DF LATIN SMALL LETTER SHARP S
But U+00DF ß has no defined uppercase.

That was very helpful, thank you. It seems that there was a faulty
package in Xubuntu RC, which left a faulty /etc/bash.bashrc with these
lines commented out. When reinstalling packages this file was not
overwritten. I fixed it manually and everything is working now.

I just ran into this problem. However, it may be a bit different, the
problem appears only when I use not standard LOCALE (LANG=UTF8.RU_ru in
my case). When I use LANG=C the problem disappears.
