Only the symbolic links are available, kmail tries to open the link and

in Xorg.

Unfortunately Kubuntu doesn't have the specialists to process this issue
properly, so reporting it to KDE directly makes a lot more sense.

kdesu is no longer directly accessible in Kubuntu Intrepid/KDE 4.
Actually I think installing kdesudo would override kdesu in any case.
Please check that usr/bin/kdesu is a symlink to /usr/bin/kdesudo, if not
make it one.
That should fix this issue.
