Ok, the original connectortable option suggested in this bug still

When installing from the latest alternate daily hardy CD image for Ubuntu, I
noticed that I wasn't asked about screen resolutions as I am normally.
The machine in question is connected to my monitor via a 4-port KVM that
prevents monitor probing/detection of refresh rates,

of course, it was perfectly detected, resolution, the lot. However,
displayconfig-gtk still does not show ny choosable resolutions or

In testing the fixes that Daniel added to the pulseaudio bzr branch,
I've found that GNOME sound events don't work, due to sample caching
limitations. The sample size has already been increased for use with
LTSP, this is likely to break that even further.
On the other hand, using pulseaudio with
TEST CASE:
1. Make sure the onboard package is installed.
2. Attempt to run onboard, either from GNOME's run dialog, or from a terminal.
3. Onboard should segfault.
4. Install the python-virtkey package from proposed with Chris' patch.
5. Attempt to run onboard again.
6. Onboard should load

Which sounds have you tried playing? I knwo for a fact that the Ubuntu
startup and logoff sounds should play with no issue.
However, I agree with you, and am looking upstream as to why this is
done, as the esound code dynamically allocates memory depending on the
sample size.

Have you tried using straight alsa? I.e disabling pulseaudio? You can do
this from within the sound preferences, under the sounds tab. You want
to uncheck the Enable Software Sound Mixing (ESD) check box.

Pulseaudio is dsigned to use the soundcard directly by default. You can
always reconfigure pulseaudio to use dmix if you wish.

use gstreamer? COuld you do this and report back as to whether the same
behavior occurrs?

This is because PulseAudio accesses the sound hardware directly, and not
through dmix. You may consider either disaqbling pulseaudio, or
reconfiguring it to use dmix.

Try installing one of the pulseaudio utilities that allows controlling
of volume for applications. I'd say that if you were to set the volume
level for the pulseaudio stream, that things could be set the same as in
gutsy.
