I booted to the problematic kernel just a while ago. I deleted cca 4GB
of JPEGs from my HDD. No other CPU/disk operations were running. After a
second or so the computer froze. Attaching more or less relevant files

Now I've also prepared a debdiff for jaunty mesa that applies this
patch. When I boot the jaunty alpha5 live CD on 965 I do see the
rendering glitch (see screenshots attached above). However, I've not
been able to test this debdiff at all because I don't have jaunty
installed on my 965 machine (and
FWIW, this is 100% reproducible for me while opening a terminal and
running "xdg-open ." inside my normal home dir on a plain ext3 fs. On
this system I never mount any other file systems and I don't use any
external USB harddrives etc.

2. open a terminal and run "sudo su"
3. run "strace gdmsetup"

move streams between devices (as in pavucontrol) and there are the

I've also been able to repro this on a much older desktop machine which
has an ATI radeon card attached over AGP. However, on this machine I had
to re-run "strace gdmsetup" around 15 times before it froze the machine.
I think it's a kernel issue.
When the machine was hung I attached gdb to strace
I can also repro this bug on a third machine, it's a HP DV6000 laptop
with intel 965, 2GB RAM running intrepid using the .27-11 kernel. It was
a lot harder to get the bug to trigger on this machine, I had to re-run

I just went through this very painful situation, after which my dmesg
look like this:

Maybe this has something to do with the fact that apport-gtk sometimes
runs with sudo and sometimes not?

I just launched "update-manager" from console and it printed a bunch of

After "sudo apt-get update" I do see 5u15, however, even after running
"sudo apt-get install --reinstall x11-common", "sudo aptitude reinstall
x11-common" and "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh x11-common" that didn't
fix it for me (config file doesn't get updated?). I'm guess that I'm

I often get kdebluetooth4, nepomunkservicestub, firefox and other errors
reporting suggestions after resuming from suspended state. Sometimes
even X gets restarted. And rarely I see only black screen with blinking

Today tried linux-image-2.6.28-9-generic and my system froze again while
starting up eclipse, doing apt-get update and in the moment of switching
window to Akregator. CPU and HDD I/O was on full load.
In the different scenario, I booted my system with init=/bin/bash and
ran: "stress --hdd 4 --time
... and, after booting my system, with the forced filesystem check and
started KDE, all my plasma settings are lost. The same is for akregator.
I often loose settings after such freeze. It is very annoying.

Today I booted to the latest kernel by accident. I worked for couple of
hours on taks not requiring high HDD load, but high CPU load. Later I
ran eclipse and while building my projects (100+) the computer hard-
froze again :'-(. BTW I am update my system cca twice a day cause I want
