Still some problems with my package...
I've corrected some of them, but one remains, I try to add the link in the
openerp-server.links file in debian directory, but at building time, I get

OK, I've also found something out about the pid problem !!!
In fact it seems that the init script is managing the pid file, and the
application also... It also the reason why the server often complains about
missing pid file when trying to stop it or restart...

I've the same issue,
After adding USER=openerp, the init.d script is not running anymore, the logs
from openerp are empty...
When copying the start-stop-daemon command from the init.d and running it
manually, then it is working... but I have an error because the openerp user
have no right to wri

forget it, it doesn't work, when doing a dpkg -l python2.5 I'm viewing
them, but they cannot be installed, it may be a dummy package...

You said "hal support for smartdimmer isn't going away anytime soon", but for
me hal never manage to get my backlight to work, In one bug report in LP, I
know a change has been made for nvidia user, to use smartdimmer, but this is
not working
smartdimmer/nvclock work also without having the nvidia driver installed
! So I think it could be fixed in hal anyway...
I don't know if xbacklight needs to have the nvidia driver in use,
perhaps that's why they said it is a nvidia driver issue...

I've added powerdevil, I'm using kubuntu, and it seems to use powerdevil
as "power manager"... If a fix is commited for gnome power manager, then
something must also be done for kde, otherwise kubuntu user will have
problems.

I've first reported the problem with intrepid, and then with jaunty alpha 1...
I've try to provide all information needed to fix the problem, following this
issue almost every day, with hope it will be fixed for release ! But ok I have
to live with it
Might there be a workaround having backlight

To add the model number to the fdi file, shawe, you could use following command
in the script :
hal-get-property --udi "/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer" --key

The command only returns the model number, but on the package installing
script, we could generate the fdi file, so that it will only have the current
laptop model in it... beca
Shawe, your workaround won't work here : the bug description has been changed
to "no laptop_panel", and your fdi files are based on it :
So nothing would happend for user like me having no laptop_panel on lshal...

Hal debuging howto is suggesting to upload the output from lshal. I would
suggest that all users where :
hal-find-by-property --key info.category --string laptop_panel is giving no
output upload
- lshal output :
lshal > /tmp/lshal.txt
and then upload the created file
and the same fore lspci
