[Bug 1753983] Re: Please decouple runtime dependencies for Fcitx QT5 frontend

2018-03-07 Thread Aron Xu
fcitx-frontend-qt5 is pulled into the system through this chain:
fcitx -> Recommends: fcitx-frontend-all -> Recommends: fcitx-frontend-qt5

Feel free to remove the package if you are sure it's not need and it
shouldn't bring you into dependency hell, while this implies you are an
advanced user since you are asking such kind of problem. We cannot
remove those runtime dependencies because they are actually needed by
the binary.

I guess the change was led by the Debian sync, for zesty the packages
are synced and derived from the Debian one, while previous packages
aren't.

I don't think there's extensive use of those Debian packages for ZFS as
rootfs at the moment, while other common cases were tested to be
working. So if there's trouble led by those packages let's work on it...

[Bug 1679671] Re: spl-linux 0.6.5.6-0ubuntu4 ADT test failure with linux-hwe-edge 4.10.0-14.16~16.04.1

2017-04-05 Thread Aron Xu
Thanks for reporting the issue. The failed test was because the version
of spl-dkms and zfs-dkms in Xenial aren't compatible to Linux 4.9/4.10.
But this shouldn't bother most use cases a lot since we have those ko
files prebuilt in linux-image-* packages, and only userland utilities
like zfsutils-linux are required.

[Bug 1664748] Re: wifi connection drops, reconnects every 10 minutes

2017-03-26 Thread Aron Xu
Hi Dustin,

I would like to know which version of Ubuntu are you running on your
laptop? Specifically, I want to know what's behaving as your dhcp
client, is it dhclient or systemd-networkd?

Requesting IP addresses from two interfaces on the same machine to one
DHCP server is sometimes causing trouble because in systemd-networkd it
sends Client-Identifier to the server (which is about your D-Bus
machine-id), and some DHCP server (as far as I know at least some
versions of ISC DHCP Server) will take Client-Identifier as precedence
over the interface mac address, thus generating IP address allocation
problem.

[Bug 1624540] Re: please have lxd recommend zfs

2017-03-14 Thread Aron Xu
As a note here, previous version of zfs-linux in Ubuntu loads the zfs
kernel modules for everyone who has the package installed
unconditionally, and since zfs-linux/0.6.5.9-4 (synced from Debian) they
are only loaded when the system has at least one zpool configured
(ConditionPathExists=/etc/zfs/zpool.cache), as expected by rlaager in
comment #14.

[Bug 1672749] [NEW] Please don't assume zfs module is always loaded

2017-03-14 Thread Aron Xu
Public bug reported:

Since zfsutils-linux/0.6.5.9-4, zfs module is not automatically loaded
on systems that no zpool exists, this avoids tainting everyone's kernel
who has the package installed but is not using zfs.

ADT test of lxd (at least at 2.11-0ubuntu4[1]) shows the storage tests
are failing because "Could not determine ZFS module version." which is
printed by zfsModuleVersionGet() in lxd/storage_zfs.go. This indicates
there are pieces of code assuming zfs kernel module is always loaded
which turns out to be not true anymore.

[Bug 1619354] Re: [SRU] Upgrade network-manager-applet to latest point release

2017-02-15 Thread Aron Xu
I've verified this nm-applet works for yakkety, also when combined with
1.2.6 update of network-manger itself.

@amribrahim1987, I don't think allowing paralleling would be a very big
deal that blocks this very wanted update, it only affects the building
process but not the binaries. Would you mind re-consider accepting it?

[Bug 1645698] Re: [SRU] Upgrade network-manager to latest point release

2017-01-25 Thread Aron Xu
@cyphermox, most of the common cases are covered before I push changes
to the git repo. I've made some minor updates to
NetworkManager/DistroTesting page and let's continue use it for smoke
testing.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

This SRU would try to have the latest well-tested upstream point release
(1.2.6) of 1.2.x land in Xenial, which is the successor of the current
1.2.2 version, fixing quite some bugs that's suitable to land in the
  stable branch.

  https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/tree/NEWS?h=nm-1-2

  [Test Case]

After installing the updated version, users should be able to avoid some
mem leaks in some cases and have generally improved DNS related
  experiences.

+ Also, as this is a general point release update, cases described in
+ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NetworkManager/DistroTesting should be used for
+ smoke testing.
+
  [Regression Potential]

This is a bug/regression fix for 1.2.2 and 1.2.4, which is quite
  complete.

  [Other Info]
The first attempt at SRUing this to xenial was for 1.2.4 but it failed
verification. This second attempt matches yakkety with 1.2.6.

Parallel building was enabled in xenial to keep the diff between xenial
and yakkety minimal since they are basically in sync now. Parallel
building was enabled in the yakkety package in May 2016 so it's been
  working fine for a while.

[Bug 1658921] Re: NetworkManager does not manage wired connection

2017-01-25 Thread Aron Xu
Can you provide your NetworkManager.conf as well as your
/etc/network/interface file? Normally these two files should look like
this:

1. NetworkManager.conf:
[main]
plugins=ifupdown,keyfile,ofono
dns=dnsmasq

[ifupdown]
managed=false

2. interfaces:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

That is to say, have dnsmasq and ifupdown plugins enabled and set
[ifupdown] to "managed=false", at the same time don't include anything
other than "lo" in /etc/network/interfaces.

[Bug 997200] Re: Test for captive portal before putting applications in online mode

2017-01-25 Thread Aron Xu
Just did some testing with up-to-date 16.04 LTS:

1. Initial state:
Wi-Fi enabled, but not connected to any network; ethernet is unplugged.

$ nmcli general
STATE CONNECTIVITY WIFI-HW WIFI WWAN-HW WWAN
disconnected none enabled enabled enabled enabled

2. Connect to a SSID that has captive portal:
$ nmcli general
STATE CONNECTIVITY WIFI-HW WIFI WWAN-HW WWAN
connected full enabled enabled enabled enabled

This means network-manager has put the state to connected and emits a
signal of full connectivity, which makes other applications "think" the
device is online with full access to the Internet.

[Bug 1657677] [NEW] [SRU]fix versioned Breaks/Replaces

2017-01-19 Thread Aron Xu
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

Previous SRU of opencc to yakkety introduced a bug that the versioned
Breaks/Replaces requires a higher version (1.0.4-3, the debian one) than
the update version (1.0.4-1ubuntu0.16.10.1), this prevents libopencc-dev
from being installed to satisfy build dependencies.

[Test Case]
Installing libopencc-dev using apt-get, the dependency should be satisfied
without problem.

[Regression Potential]

Changing the dependency version should be safe.

[Bug 1619354] Re: [SRU] network-manager-applet

- bug #1651019, for zesty there's a branch needs sponsor as well:

https://code.launchpad.net/~network-manager/network-manager/+git/ubuntu-applet/+ref/master

- for #1597151 I think it's harmless to ignore since they got verified
in yakkety for quite some time...

As for the rename, they would make diffs between yakkety and xenial
trivial thus I believe it's worthwhile.

[Bug 1645698] Re: [SRU] Upgrade network-manager to latest point release

2017-01-13 Thread Aron Xu
- d/rules: yes that helped a lot for testing

- commenting out patch: in xenial branch we haven't switched to gbp-pq
yet, and historically some patches were commented out when not used, and
I'm following it

- it was believed not useful during a bunch update of n-m 1.2 packages
(both debian and ubuntu), but later we switched back to hook up the
service in WantedBy=network-online.target dynamically. This change makes
it easier to disable the service and is what we have in yakkety, but the
change can be dropped if it's not appropriate for SRU.

  stable branch.

  https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/tree/NEWS?h=nm-1-2
-
- For xenial, we'll also backporting a patch from 1.2.6 that should fix a
- no-networking-after-resuming-from-sleep issue. This patch was applied to
- Debian testing and zesty in 1.4.2-3ubuntu1.
-
- For yakkety, this is an update to 1.2.6. Once 1.2.6 has been in use for
- a while without new problems, we'll look into doing a separate SRU for
- Xenial.

  [Test Case]

After installing the updated version, users should be able to avoid some
mem leaks in some cases and have generally improved DNS related
  experiences.

  [Regression Potential]

- This version has been in yakkety for sometime, and there's no report of
- regressions until now.
+ This is a bug/regression fix for 1.2.2 and 1.2.4, which is quite
+ complete.

** Branch unlinked: lp:~happyaron/dkms/merge-2.3

** Description changed:

dkms upstream has become back to life in recent months, and merged many

is worthy to get old bug fixed and new features incorporated.
+
+ All Ubuntu deltas are merged into Debian package with certain changes,
