[Bug 1424215] Re: growisofs BD-R overflow error despite capacity check
It is not that simple. The same burn that failed with growisofs here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/utopic/+source/dvd+rw- tools/+bug/1113679/comments/13 finishes correctly with cdrecord. Both burns where done with K3B in the same system. K3b can use any of growisofs or cdrecord. I used 2 blank BD-R from the same spindle and burned exacly the same 3 files into them. I have burned ~ 50 BD-R using K3B with cdrecord and they all burn flawlessly at 4X (1 GB/s). K3B using growisofs (besides never burning correctly), burns at 2X (and reports it as 4X) while keeping the burner's hardware buffer below 50%. K3B with drecord keeps is at 97+% all the time while burning. Basically growisofs is useless for BD-R. CDrecord should be the default or at least an easy to use option. Right now (and since BD-R where invented) you need to add a PPA and use K3B to actually burn BD-R. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1424215 Title: growisofs BD-R overflow error despite capacity check To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dvd+rw-tools/+bug/1424215/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1386973] Re: Ubuntu 14.10 soft lockup with ATI Radeon R7 250 X
https://github.com/alterapraxisptyltd/openatom/issues/1 Quote: [linux] Infinite loop in pci_get_rom_size() This is one of those issues that you find when putting supposedly stable code through unusual situations. I did expect any function in linux that is not part of radeon.ko to not be rock solid. Turns out that's not really the case. If we have a PCIR structure with a zero size length, the loop iterating through those structure does not advance. It simply does image += readw(pds + 16) * 512;, but if that field is zero we're back analyzing the same structure on the next loop. The way to get out of this loop is to set bit 7 of the type field. That's what 'last_image' does. If that bit is not set, with the above, that's an infinite loop. Luckily, it doesn't crash the kernel, but it hangs any driver that calls the function under said circumstances. No more modprobe -r or unbinding. Reboot is needed. No idea why a firmware blob here is treated as trusted input. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1386973 Title: Ubuntu 14.10 soft lockup with ATI Radeon R7 250 X To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1386973/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1386973] [NEW] Ubuntu 14.10 soft lockup with ATI Radeon R7 250 X
Public bug reported: I have a VGA controller Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cape Verde XT [Radeon HD 7770/8760 / R7 250X]. When I boot from the Utopic DVD I get to the language menu and I can select try ubuntu without installing, but after a few sencods I get BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s!' and the message just repeats every 22 secods forever. I tried setting nomodeset using the F6 menu, but I got exactly the same result. This is Ubuntu 14.10 64 bits which basically seems unable to boot with that hardware. The experience was the same with 14.04, but I thought 14.10 would be better. In 14.04 disabling the video card and booting off the integrated graphics let me set nomodeset in /etc/default/grub and I was able boot with the R7 250X with the VESA driver. [Bug 1225201] [NEW] Nautilus memory leak when thumbnailing jpeg2000 images
Public bug reported: Nautilus starts with under 300 MB and after thumbnailing some jp2 files (JPEG 2000) memory ends up above 900 MB. Closing all nautilus windows does not release the memory. Memory is only freed when doing nautilus -q. The more files is thumbnails the more memory is uses. Steps to reproduce: Drop a few jp2 files in a folder (I tested with lossless jpeg2000 files about 3000 by 3000) Quit nautilus (nautilus -q) Start nautilus again and open the folder containing jp2 files. Watch memory go up as nautilus is thumbnailing each file. Close nautilus (ALT-F4 or clicking in the red cross), memory is never released. Quit nautilus (nautilus -q) and memory is freed. Valgrind is very helpful, apparently libpixbufloader-jasper.so is used to read jp2 files. ==3829== 325,112,688 bytes in 11 blocks are possibly lost in loss record 12,461 of 12,461 ==3829==at 0x4C2CD7B: malloc (in /usr/lib/valgrind/vgpreload_memcheck-amd64-linux.so) ==3829==by 0x72AC150: gdk_pixbuf_new (in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0.2800.0) ==3829==by 0x288C42CE: ??? [Bug 1215249] Re: Character set (UTF-8) issues when geotagging
I know what's going on. The file is missing a metadata that tells it what coding was used for the text. http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/faq.html#Q10 It reads: IPTC†: The value of the IPTC:CodedCharacterSet tag determines how the internal IPTC string values are interpreted. If CodedCharacterSet exists and has a value of UTF8 (or ESC % G) then string values are assumed to be stored as UTF‑8. Otherwise the internal IPTC encoding is assumed to be Windows Latin1 (cp1252), but this can be changed with -charset iptc=CHARSET. So I took the GottenGeography tagged image and added the tag exiftool -CodedCharacterSet=UTF8 08.tif Now the output is correct in both tools exiftool 08.tif Coded Character Set : UTF8 Envelope Record Version : 4 City: San Martín de los Andes Province-State : Neuquén exiv2 -pi 08.tif Iptc.Envelope.CharacterSet String 3 Iptc.Envelope.ModelVersion Short 1 4 Iptc.Application2.City String 24 San Martín de los Andes Iptc.Application2.ProvinceState String 8 Neuquén Iptc.Application2.CountryNameString 9 Argentina Iptc.Application2.RecordVersion Short 1 4 ** Changed in: gottengeography Status: Invalid = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1215249 Title: Character set (UTF-8) issues when geotagging To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gottengeography/+bug/1215249/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1215513] [NEW] System locks up, requires hard reset
Public bug reported: Since I started using 3.8.0-29 I experienced system lock ups at random times. First one was while running Virtualbox (windows guest) but later have been without virtualbox running for example while shutting down or while reading a webpage. I could not find any relevant log, but I'd post any log file considered useful. This has hapened in 2 different machines (the one im reporting from is intel with intel graphics and the other is AMD with radeon graphics). Both 64 bits. [Bug 1163086] [NEW] os-prober created a 11.6 MB grub.cfg file impossible to boot

I think I have the solution. Others might want to try this: I installed Ubuntu 12.10 64 bits from scratch yesterday, then added Canonical patner repos and installed Skype from there. [Bug 999765] Re: Dash search won't return results when typing the exact name of an app containing a capital letter inside it
It is the capital letter in the middle. The reason it works with openoffice is because the command to start it includes the word openoffice without the capital letter. My guess is unity is splitting the words when it finds a capital letter, so it indexes net and beans but not netbeans. As the command to start netbeans is not something like /usr/bin/netbeans it is not indexed there either. There's a workaround: edit the desktop file and either change the app name to Netbeans or add the word netbeans in the comment. Here's how. sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/netbeans-7.2.desktop [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Name=NetBeans IDE 7.2 Comment=The Smarter Way to Code netbeans Exec=/bin/sh /usr/local/netbeans-7.2/bin/netbeans Icon=/usr/local/netbeans-7.2/nb/netbeans.png Categories=Application;Development;Java;IDE Version=1.0 Type=Application Terminal=0 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/999765 Title: Dash search won't return results when typing the exact name of an app containing a capital letter inside it To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/999765/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 806848] Re: unity-panel-service at 100% cpu when opened /w rb without album cover
This is not just about the 100% CPU usage. Unity-panel-service increases memory usage by 2MB every second you leave the sound menu open after you pause rhythmbox. This is in addition to the, in my case, 75% to 85% CPU usage. I stopped the music and left the computer for a while with the soundmenu opened. When I came back unity-panel-service using 1.6 GB of RAM. I had to kill it from a virtual terminal to make the system responsive again. Here's how I reproduce it. 1) Open system monitor or top and sort by memory usage 2) Open soundmenu and start Rhythmbox from there. 3) Press play in the soundmenu to start a song 4) Press pause in the soundmenu Now while soundmenu is open, unity-panel-service memory usage increases at a 2MB per second rate and it never goes down, not even closing rhythmbox or soundmenu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/806848 Title: unity-panel-service at 100% cpu when opened /w rb without album cover To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/806848/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 782331] [NEW] Remmina remote desktop window not visible when using ALT-TAB
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity When connected to a remote desktop using remmina, you can use full screen mode. There's a menu on top of the full screen window when the mouse hover over there. There's a minimize option and it works, remmina's remote session windows goes to the dock, but in that state ALT-TAB does not show remmina's minimized windows as a option to switch. Steps to reproduce: 1) Open remmina 2) Connect to a remote desktop 3) Activate full screen mode 4) Move mouse over the top center of the screen and press minimize 5) ALT-TAB to go back to the minimized window (you can't) If the windows is not in full screen, the bug does not appear.
