After I gave up and shifted to a wired connection, I noticed that I'd get
disconnected periodically but then it would reconnect successfully. It
seems some drivers manage to reconnect and other drivers don't.
So there may be _two_ bugs:
1) A bug that results in occasional loss of connection.
2)
@Amr, Yes. I had executed `sudo -s` previously.
I wrote incorrectly. I should have placed a '#' rather than a "$" at
the start of the `apt-get` line. However, the `$ maxima` was correctly
written.

The title of this bug report is either inaccurate or it isn't the same
bug as some of us are experiencing:

When I click on the "Unassigned" edit icon, I get a popup that says I
can assign myself responsibility. Since I can be just as irresponsible
as no one I guess I could assign myself but then what? Where is the
documentation on how to become a maintainer?

Obviously the maintainer is absent. What is the procedure to get this
released as part of the xenial updates?

connection back after the instructions for reinstall of network-manager

Second, if the default network manager system that comes with distributions

This may be a bug that appears when using an SSD for swap. (I just
can't imagine why people would want to use an SSD for swap ;) ).
This reported that the problem appeared with installation of an SSD for
swap:

Confirmed here and none of these "work-arounds" worked for me:
# systemctl restart network-manager.service
# nmcli g
# killall nm-applet
# start nm-applet
start: Unable to connect to Upstart: Failed to connect to socket
