indicator-applet-appmenu was not active in my panel, uninstalling
indicator-appmenu via package manager and logging out and back in solved
the problem for me.

It is missing from the application itself. For LibreOffice a possible
workaround is to install it without Gnome oder GTK3 integration. Hope

am using gnome-flashback (gnome-panel) with Compiz. I first recognised
that Compiz is giving very high CPU loads according to top. At the same
time, intel_gpu_top shows GPU usage at an unchanged 0%.
Ok, I did some digging further and figured, that obviously the GPU is not being
used at all when OpenGL apps are run.
I launchend glmark2 and checked intel_gpu_top and top: While the GPU usage
remained at 0%, glmark2 sent the CPU usage to >200%.
So maybe this is not a Compiz bug then, however -

issue does not occur _within linux_ anymore (with none of the default
Ubuntu Kernels (4.4.0-53, -57, -59, 4.8.0-32 and 4.9.0 from the mainline

messages (for another issue) by filming the screen output with my mobile

I can confirm the bug being related to the Place Windows Plugin.
The various plugin options (Workaround, Placement Mode etc.) don't make
any difference. The bug also affects windows that are given a fixed

well there's bad news - i had already tried to find something in the logfiles
but to no avail - they do resume just after the kernel-induced reboot after the
initial fsck. furthermore, i now recognized that after such crashy shutdown,
fsck does not only find errors but also had died with error
ok, i got a bit further into it. first of all, i found that kernel
logging was delayed per - switch in /etc/syslog.conf. i removed that
and now kern.log shows some strange news on shutdown:

more convenient, because it reduces the write access to the drive, which
- due to the writing-weakness inherent in flash technology - should have
an impact on both

ok i got a temporary solution from ubuntuforums, where two other people
reported the same problem: it seems to be a syncing issue. the emails
can be re-synced by dragging them to a dummy folder - where the already
appear as synced - and then simple drag them back to inbox. however -
this should

a really strange bug occured to me for the very first time.
what is was doing: using evolution to fetch email via pop3
what happened: evolution displayed all fetched email in the inbox, but: the
email content shown, both in preview

alright, i finally found the time to collect the strace output. seems to
me like something is getting stuck polling for date/time. the strace
file includes following:
-begin: just 1..2 seconds after update-notifier started causing high cpu load
-end: update notifier had returned to normal cpu
um , dustin, as for your above statement it does not appear possible to
load restricted drivers into Hardy at the moment i want to note that i
was able to activate/load restricted nvidia drivers via enabling the
desktop eyecandy under system--prefs--appearance, where after choosing
the respective

however i wanted to further contribute to debugging... ;-)

similar problem here, but:
-when opening a flash page, i'm only offered to intall adobe flash, nothing
else. nevertheless, this fails, see bug 199460
-when installing gnash via system--add/remove, it won't install
mozilla-plugin-gnash. this has to be done separately using synaptic
however,
today i wanted to do the strace thing, but while i searched for the bug
report and your reply, the following things happened:
1. after 2..3 minutes the process update-notifier went back to normal cpu usage
2. in the panel, the update-notifier icon appeared but was greyed out, saying
that a
about this problem.

various other flash pages are shown properly, but on YouTube i just keep
seeing the loading... circle. gnash is using around 20% cpu during
that.
in general, gnash is using pretty much cpu (5..20%) for doing nothing,
that is, only displaying wiki

funny thing is, that this file simply does not exist, at least on my
filesystem. there are several install.rdf files, but a sudo find / -name
install-siv* returned zero results.
