proxy settings for each network connection

There's many proxy-related questions in Ask! Ubuntu. Most ask how to automatically or easily switch on/off the proxy settings. But nobody seems to be suggesting to move the proxy settings to the network interface setup itself. In Android devices you set the proxy settings for each network.
