Can you try
echo 1 > /dev/dsp
from a command line. You should be able to hear a "tick" sound.

aaah!! Tosibha has this sound problem!
Remove this conf file and try adding in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
Also try other options such as
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
or
options snd-hda-intel model=3stack
