For the purpose of compiling source code in gcc - in Live CD as experiment .
I have *not installed* in HDD as such question of my password does arise.
Only I want to know "*default root password* " for *Live CD *created by
Ubuntu

Why would you want to do that when you can do everything that you need to with
sudo?
If you still want to get the whole root thing, you could do 'sudo su -' and
enter your own password when prompted.

Try issuing the command 'pppoeconf' as root in ubuntu while the moden is
switched on. It will auto check the 'access concentrator' (a rather
complicated sounding anme for the modem, in layman terms) and ask a few
basic question regarding the setup which are explained wonderflly well.
