Yes, On linux, you can use SCIM instead of BarahaIME. It has been
working pretty well and we have used Inscript, itrans. KGP input methods
without any issues for years now.

I use BarahaIME (IME=input method editor) on Windows XP for typing devanagari
(sanskrit). www.baraha.com. Works great in most Windows s/w except MS Word!
