I basically need to create my own boot stick to be able to input and read
telugu, so that I can use any computer without disturbing its harddisk.

Press alt+F2 and type gnome-panel if you are using gnome. If you are using
XFCE try alt+F2 and type xfce4-panel there.

I require 8.10 CD to try out creating a persistent bootable ubuntu on USB
stick of 2 GB
Though I have 8.10 DVD (Linux for you Dec -08), I am not able to do as the
DVD image is huge as it consists of multiple versions of ubuntu.
