I confirm that /boot/grub/grub.cfg is ok, but in the boot menu is missing the
last character: you have to add it manually every times. There is no need to
reinstalled Ubuntu: just add that character when you turn on, or force Grub

The fixed version by moma worked for my acer aspire 5610 with Mint 8
installed. It made made multimedia keys work! Instead of

Actually it happens so far with any user name or password. it also
happens with a Desktop user and a different user and password. So far
it does it every time. So i don't think the 48 char password is the
case. I'm setting up a VM at the moment to test it on a clean system.
