As ridiculous as Lorenzos comment sounds, I can confirm it. Switching
to Ambiance (from Human-Clearlooks) does indeed make vmware-server-
console work. Switching back causes it to fail again. Several other
themes also cause the failure (Dust, New Wave).

I got this error on Samsung N130 netbook (Atom N270), so it shouldn't
have to do with nvidia drivers. Also i DON'T have this on my desktop
(AMD + nvidia). I did not notice any slowdowns, on the contrary, the
netbook boots faster than before. So any slowdowns others experience
might be unrelated.
Please fix this. Still in Maverick official release.

I forgot to mention: nothing happens to Synaptic. After the crash (I
only note the crash because the alert in the Ubuntu-GNOME panel) I start
to submit the report, and continue to select more packages (to install)
via Synaptic interface. And things still goes well.
