classic (gnome) has no problem saving the session. There may be other
problems but that certainly is not one.

The funny thing is, that normally the error message appears randomly, but when
I insert my Nokia CS-17 3G-modem, the error always appeared three times in a
row:

Same random problem with a clean 32 bit 11.04 on a lenovo laptop.

Looking at http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-
edgers/ppa/ubuntu/dists/maverick/main/source/Sources, it would seem that
the package in question is xserver-xorg. Removing that will also remove
ubuntu-desktop. So I need to remove those, then re-install them
_without_ the PPA xorg-edgers enabled? That
The question is:
Why is that nasty heap of software not able to tell that a library is
missing?
Several bugs where depending on just that ridiculous problem, and people
didn't find the solution.
Who wrote such bad software?

I have the same problem, in the lower quarter of the screen I got
horizontal dead zone strip where pointer resets to it's default look and
doesn't react on clicks or mouse wheel scroll. The dead zone is not
permanent.
