sound after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04. while on ubuntu 11.10, it could
record sound.
I can see the audio input device via the audio settings menu, and also
with alsamixer, but no input would come in.

process back to a busybox prompt. just typing 'exit' at the prompt will

Under Natty, it seems there's a huge bug with the Compiz Application
Switcher. Not the Ring Switcher, Shift Switcher, or Static Application
Switcher, just the standard Application Switcher. Whenever I
bluetooth doesn't work for me either, and no number of reboots makes it
work. restarting /etc/init.d/bluetooth, or re-loading the module doesn't
help. this is on 10.10 64 bit - bluetooth used to work on 10.04 and
09.10. this is on an HP Envy 15.

the microphone doesn't work on my HP Envy 15 laptop, which has an Intel
IDT 92HD75B2X5 sound card. this used to work on Ubuntu 10.04.
now even though I can set the proper settings in both alsamixer and the
pulseaudio sound preferences, nothing will be recorded on the
interesting, I tried to collect addtional info via apport-collect
715889 - but it just says: no additional information collected.

this is really bad news, as some software rely exclusively on OSS. for

actually, adding this line to /etc/default/acpi-support seems to solve
this problem:

hibernation does not work for the HP Envy 15 laptop. see Bug #557072 on
making poweroff and suspend work.
but, hibernation still doesn't work. in fact, the hibernate menu is
missing from the 'power menu' on the top-right menu bar on the screen -
one can only suspend, log
hm, I don't have a System - Preferences - Pointing device menu option,
only System - Preferences - Mouse. and there, there's no circular
scrolling option, nor Scrolling tab.
what package does that come from? what does the 'maverick kernel' mean?

but, as for removing the xhci module automatically for suspend, this
doesn't seem to work. I've put it into /etc/default/acpi-support, into
the MODULES line, but this doesn't seem to remove the module before
suspending. this, I can only suspend if I manually remove the

the cups services is not started automatically on my system, and does
printing does not work.
when I click on the Printing - Troubleshoot button, I'm told to go to
System - Administration - Services - but there's no Services menu in
System -
this is annoying - the System - Administration - Services menu is
missing, and for example cups doesn't start automatically on the system,
how would I make it start automatically?
removing a feature, but not providing a replacement is not progress :(
(BTW, cups's troubleshooting guide
about dimimng; before I suspend, I have my LCD at full brightness. after
resuming, the brightness is reduced (actually, it resumes, almost done,
then I see the brightess being lowered). I have to manually increase the
brightess to get back where I was before the suspend
