The solution was a disk cleanup as I suspected, took me some time to get
my hands on media large enough to hold the data.
Seems like the new Ubuntu has gained quite some weight since my last
install and in vanilla it takes up several gig more than my fully
populated (program wise) previous
BTW, it worked after I hit the +10% free space on disk

This occurs on every kernel upgrade - try going to the System menu
point, choose Restricted drivers Manager, then enable the restricted
driver - either choose the driver on your disk if you have it or choose
to download it from the net.
This bug is really beginning to annoy me in connection with
Actually just had the same problem upgrading the kernel yesterday (not
the first time this has happened either) - Wrote a little howto and put
it on my site:
HOWTO fix wireless card using restricted drivers in Linux (Ubuntu)

But back
Setting problem as confirmed as there is a fix and using the method
sorted the problem out - I hope however that someone fixes this pretty
soon as I believe it can have a serious backlash on linux uptake.
Problems like this can overshadow the user experience for novice users.

Did you try the other treads - A whole bunch on wireless problems in
connection with upgrades. For me plugging into the wire, ticking off the
use restricted drivers in the Restricted Drivers Management Gui found
under Administration did the trick - Asked to download the driver

And voila - I can see my AP again and use my wireless, but this needs to
be looked at so it doesn't disable peoples network cards / unselects use
restricted drivers, not all people are lucky enough to be in a place
where they can just plug in to fix the problem.

Wireless does not work under
Got the same problem - I am however not anywhere near a wired connection
so I will wait till I get home to put a (v) check in the restricted
drivers management gui, I can luckily see the BCM43xx driver in my
management utility - or I'll search my disk for the already installed
driver...

lost
Will try enabling and downloading the driver in the restricted drivers
management utility, seems it has become unchecked during upgrade
G Don't have wire here so must wait till I come home or search my
disk

Wireless does not work under new kernel XX-15 - but works fine under
Found a wire and plugged in - Now the lights come on during boot - All
to do now is finding an access point and then try it out.
This is however competely uacceptible and many people would dismiss
Linux/ubuntu altogether if this happened and they couldn't find a
solution within the first few
