Problem solved (for now at least). This is what I did: 1) Removed my computer from the list in the Account tab. 2) Restarted Firefox 3) Added computer again 4) Waited a while, then removed computer again 5) Rebooted computer 6) Added computer again 7) This time after adding the computer, a new

About my system: I had an installation of Dapper, so I did a dist-upgrade to change to Edgy Eft. But to avoid dist-upgrade problems, I only saved my /home partition and did a clean install of Edgy Eft, then mounting my /home partition which was previously upgraded from Dapper to Edgy.

After a mv .gconf .gconf.old I was able to log in to my user account, but all of my settings are gone... So I did a diff -r .gconf .gconf.old diff.txt and the diff.txt file is attached here, if anyone would like to take a look at it and find the files / differences between my not working files
