Just wondering about this decision:
maverick will ship gnome 3.0 right?
gnome 3 doesn't ship bonobo and other stuff so I am interested to know
how you can reintegrate bonobo there.

Opensuse does this afaik since opensuse 11.1.
Perhaps anyone can add this feature request in launchpad?

hi,
Hmm yes the beepers are controlled by the hda codec after the driver is
loaded during boot.
But the speaker works in an early boot process before loading the sound
drivers as well.
There are only few machines without a real speaker but most have!

Hi Thom,
Why are you combining two emulators for testing?
My suggestion:
Use alsa for wine and configure the pulseaudio to use dmix so it can't

Edit/place the attached default.pa under ~/.pulse

hi Luke and list,
The eci.h needs to be in /usr/include.
The libs should be symlinked to /usr/lib/libetidev.so
and
/usr/lib/libibmeci.so
And you need also the old libstdc++ in /usr/lib
After these steps are complete, speechd can detect the ibmtts.

Hi,
some days ago you wrote that you are using gnomespeech.
This is the reason why pulseaudio blocks orca.
Pulseaudio opens the hw0,0 alsa device so no other alsa application can
work.
This happens only to useless soundcards without hardwaremixing!!!
You can try speechd and select it's pulse

Servus Attila,
Using gnome-speech is a temporary hack because it will be removed in
gnome 3.0.
You can try to modify the orca start command and add a -n to avoid the
copy of ~/.orca folder.
Finaly my Question is:
Have you tried this setup under debian as well?

Try the following on a clean 9.04 installation:
Open a gnome-terminal
sudo aptitude install speech-dispatcher python-speechd
then run

and create a new configuration for your user.
select espeak as outputmodule
and port 6560.
select oss as sound output
start speech-dispatcher.
