Andrej,
I have the same problem with my BenQ (=Acer) scanner.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-
backends/+bug/85488/comments/40
works for me, but not always..
Sometimes it looks if nothing happens and then, after a while (5-10
minutes) the scanner starts!!! I'm using xsane
return to the start position and then the scanner is not found.

Hi Jaime,
Last week I tried the scanbuttond trick but it didn't work.
But believe it or notat the moment the scanner works and I still
don't know why.
Different from some time ago is that I changed the line in snapscan.conf
and a scan is possible...
So, what can be going on???

Lots of luck.

xresprobe trick, simply by using the package manager. Problem solved. I
understand it doesn't work on every system and don't know an other
trick. I'm not really an expert.
Good luck

Ubuntu 7.04 failed. Again, I don't understand why.

Hi Bryce,
My experience differs to the only one
the problem for some reason I don't
understand. Till now I work in the 1024 x 768 mode without problems.
I also tried to change the config but it looked if it didn't accept the
changes. At the moment in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file shows my monitor
type (daewoo 518X) so I'm satisfied

Dear Olivier,
Indeed, a CRT (Daewoo 518X) and it always worked fine, both in windows
and ubuntu 6.06 and 6.10 at 1024 x 768.
The problem described is exactly my problem so I will follow the
discussion. Thanks

I tried the following in the terminal window:
sudo apt-get install xresprobe
and restarted the computer: problem solved
Thanks Bryce
