I think I'm seeing this in the following way:
1. see new image, try to update
2. 100% download completed
3. try to apply and restart
4. get error message saying 'failed to apply'

Not sure what happened, but Skype stopped working at some point in
Precise and it required a reinstall to get working. I reinstalled by
apt-get install skype and it worked just fine.
