I primarily use system connections with network-manager and I haven't
experienced this issue. My brother uses user level connections and
complained about this issue. We both have Intel based wireless cards.

Martin, please reconsider backporting the fix to 9.10. Kubuntu doesn't
have the nice option of being able to ignore crashes of this type like
Ubuntu does. Constantly having to dismiss this error gets annoying.

To those complaining about the tone in some posts, I think you fail to
realize that:
1) People are angry
2) Ubuntu has built up enough goodwill that they are complaining directly in
the channels that Ubuntu provides. This shows that they want to still want to
participate in the project.

It seems that if the '-O3' switch is used, then the compiler does not
honor the '-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=0' flag. I need to investigate that more.
I rebuilt gpac 0.4.5 with gcc options -01 -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=0. MP4Box
is now working on my machine. I can import aac files with out error.

I added Rob Hall's flags to debian/rules and rebuilt gpac 0.4.5 on my
amd64 install. MP4Box still terminates with a buffer overflow

The hard drive in brother's external IDE was once JFS, but is now
formatted NTFS. I had the exact same problem. HAL kept thinking it was
JFS.
This is how I fixed my problem. In
/etc/hal/fdi/policy/preferences.fdi, I added this
