keyring cannot be unlocked if used
As Lucid will be supported for quite a while, it would be nice to see
this bug fixed (although there are various workarounds). You can either
use this patch or a more recent version from svn.

Would you mind fixing this bug in Lucid? The patch is rather trivial and
affects only the debian maintainer scripts.
Postinst gets/expects a wrong error code from dpkg-query. This has been
fixed by the debian developers in revision 4577 of the tex-common
package (closes: #571334).
The postinst script gets/expects a wrong error code from dpkg-query.
Replacing the occurrences of
stat=$(dpkg-query -W -f='${Status}' texlive-base)
with
stat=$(dpkg-query -W -f='${Status}' texlive-base || /bin/true)
resolves the issue.
