Unfortunately, the screenshot only shows a blue video... it is like
that, except the video is still showing in parts (exactly in the
position it would be if I wouldn't rotate the cube).
This is a shot of totem-xine actually, but it happens in both totem-xine
and totem-gstreamer. I'm adding a link
VLC shows the issue as well, but can be configured to use XVideo for
output, which makes it work as shown in the screenshot.

When using the volume osd for the first time after logging in (using the
shortcut keys defined as volume mute, volume up and so on), the on-

Usually it is placed in the lower center of the screen, but the

Tried it... still hanging sometimes in dapper. No problems so far in
edgy. As I said, the dapper fix never came through to dapper-updates.
I'll upgrade to edgy soon enough, but I guess the fix would be great for
the LTS release. :)

I'm the author of Bug #63831 and I have the same problem.
I can confirm that Ulfzart's solution (editing /etc/usplash.conf and
doing update-initramfs) fixes it for me.
What might be of interest for the developers is that usplash worked
perfectly in edgy when I upgraded a working dapper install.

I only have it on re-logging in. However, I just tried and it only
happened on the third login (= the second re-log in). Weird...
The only thing I noticed when logging out is that the dbus-daemon and
the gnome-vfs-daemon don't get stopped, and another pair of these is
started whenever I log in...
The manual fix for dapper (gtk-update-icon-cache -f
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/) works in edgy as well, just tried it. :)

I just installed edgy knot-3. I had the problem with the bad fonts in
Firefox, so I stumbled upon this bug.
I just tried Patrice/iwj's first fix, and it works. Fonts in Firefox now

Okay, I managed to get it working again... and at least for me, this is
*not* an xserver Bug.
Everybody who has the Installer stops on xresprobe with black screen +
two characters, this is probably the correct bug.
For everybody who has edgy and has a working usplash but at some point the

Installed on my laptop (HP/Compaq NX9030 with Intel i855 graphics
chipset/i810 compatible) the knot-2 alternate installer. Worked fine.
Then I did dist-upgrade. usplash and a couple of other things got
upgraded... now when I boot, it gets to kernel log, then blanks

I have an HP/Compaq NX9030 laptop. It's the only machine I have that
can't boot the edgy LiveCD knot-2 or a recent daily-live completely.
What happens is this: It boots correctly into usplash and tries to do
some things (add livecd user, load drivers, ...). At some point it
This might be connected to bug #41106 (bug describes a problem I had as
well, and I have an i810 chipset), but at the moment I have some (CD
burner) problems with the alternate installer, so no way to test this.
