As I stated before, I'm a moran. I'm still having similar issues, and
eventually things grind to a halt--just not as fast. The only thing
that I've changed is blacklisting the ipv6 module--that's it--and I'm
having better but not perfect results. Eventually, i get a really nasty
hang where I
so, doing some research on the rtl8187 driver, it appears that it
depends on the stuff that comes in the mac80211 kernel module. About an
hour after inserting the module, I'm experiencing zero degradation of
signal/packet loss.
Can this be verified by someone else?
Here's my stats:

hello!
first, make sure it's not already present by doing this:
$ sudo lspci | grep mac80211
if you get output, then it's already present and I'm just a moran.
If you don't get output, then it's not working, and you can just type
$ sudo modprobe mac80211
and you'll be good to go.

I think this is a sound driver issue. I have the same problems on my
desktop machine running an Audigy 2 (snd-emu10k1) card. Other tuning
programs also do not work on my desktop--they can't seem to open the
alsa device.
However, on my laptop, which uses the intel 82801 sound chipset, with

I can confirm this problem still exists in feisty.

First of all, I can confirm this on Feisty, updated last night, with
kernel 2.6.20-14-generic (on x86, of course).
Second of all:
sudo update-rc.d -f networking remove == nasty hack.
blanking out /etc/network/interfaces == nasty hack.
These scripts are here for a reason -- so you don't have to
Well, I guess I spoke out of turn. Cry yer pardon!
I blanked out /etc/network/interfaces as described, leaving just the lo
interface.
Then i rebooted (no hang, of course) and logged into gnome. I started
nm-applet, and it immediately saw my wireless AP (and a neighbor's). I
connected, and it
rerunning the /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-css.sh script worked
for me.

Hi. nVidia has its own Xinerama extension called TwinView. When using
multiple monitors/screens in X using the proprietary driver, you should
not be using the Xinerama flag.
See nvidia docs on Twinview, and I'm attaching another xorg.conf for
your perusal. A bit ugly, my apologies in advance.
