First after upgrade to 9.10 the screen sometimes froze with the mouse
pointer still moving. Sometimes there where dense white and black
horizontal lines across the entire screen hiding everything.
Finally after a few reboots from remote session putty login from
another computer the screen

Yes this is typical to upgrades. The upgrade software have all the time
and resources in the world to figure out the system and packages but
fails.

Used the server i386 image insted and selected LAMP server installation
from the start upp menu.
The installation worked fine and we have a GUI less machine with MySQL,
Apache, FTP etc.
