I can confirm that adding the lapic kernel parameter works around the
problem. Before adding the parameter, dummy APIC emulation was used and
the CPU was running hot. With the lapic parameter, the warning

The script /etc/cron.daily/standard in cron 3.0pl1-105ubuntu1 doesn't
report files in lost+found.
The bug in the script is caused by setting $lost_found variable in a
pipeline. The variable is
