I have deleted the Xorg.o.log because it was not the log generated on
re-boot after the distribution upgrade to Lucid.
In fact the boot does not get far enough to generate an Xorg log.
This means that it is probably not a duplicate of bug #562843 so I am
unlinking it from that bug as well.

The result is my monitor gives the message Input signal out of range -

I can boot in recovery mode with kernel 2.6.27-11 and from there get
into a console to log in as myself. But kernels 2.6.{32,31}-21 do not
boot in any mode.

Well,its not as simple as that. I'm on my EEEPC (with Lucid on USB
stick). On startup, pulseaudio priority is 0 and there is no sound.
Nothing I do can get the sound to work, so I have followed the
instructions for a log and have attached it.

Being ever the dabbler, I fired up System Monitor and tried to stop
PulseAudio - not allowed. I noticed NICE was -11. For no other reason
than I thought this odd, I reduced the priority to 0, and BINGO! - sound
devices are recognised - Input and Output -

I rebooted, ran Empathy, gave the password for the default keyring,
closed Empathy. Re-started Empathy and very soon all the contact details
and Accounts were available.
So I think I can say the problem is solved and equivalent to the
existing bug.

Lucid Lynx Alpha 1: No contact
This really is a big blow to those of us who have been hoping it would
come good in Lucid. Now it looks as though it will not even be in Zingy
Zebra (or whatever the April 2017 release is called). We must not lose
sight of key features that Windows users expect or we will never solve
this bug

The work around in the Forum is OK, if you know about it, but there is
still a bug to be fixed here. As the forum says, it does not affect the
version you can download from the OOo website, but this is not a
suitable solution for ordinary users of Ubuntu.

back. It looks like empathy tries to create a 'default' keyring and
sort of fails. Possibly because the 'default' keyring is already there
and new one is created called 'default2'. Then another one called
'default3', and so on.

The Live CD as downloaded has this problem as it installs

So this seems to be a general bug when adding a new account, which, of
course I have to do because I put the release on to a USB stick (with
persistent storage) with no existing accountss.
So it is a serious regression from the version in Alpha 2.

I'm hoping that when I upgrade from Karmic to Lucid I will get full
Video + Audio chat in Empathy with MSN Messenger clients. Currently,
when my bother in Aberdeen (I am in S Wales) comes on-line I have to
type him a message and say I'll see him soon when I get re-booted into
Windows.
