Thanks for your efforts with Ubuntu!
The Jaunty driver seems to work from the live CD. I played the ogv file
from the Examples directory and also a wmv file (having installed a
codec) and both played ok. I do get quite a bit of tearing but that's
another issue. I will look into it a bit more

Hi,
There is nothing in that directory. Probably because Totem didn't crash.
It only stopped outputting sound. The GUI continues to work as before
but nothing happens when you try to start playback.
I understand that the bug is challenging as it is intermittent (but

On a clean install of 8.10 on a Compaq nc8430 laptop, all video playback
fails when using the default (open source) graphics driver. Both Movie
Player and VLC crash (abort) when video playback is about to start. This

Hmm, I have been getting good-looking password dialogs for about a week now so
maybe this has been fixed by one of the latest upgrades since. So we can close
this ticket for now. Not sure if I can do that myself but I'll try.

with the NVidia driver that I'm using. I'll close this for now and open

I too have this problem (lack of sound). At least with VLC and Movie
Player. Movie player says it can't find an appropriate codec before it
starts playing. I assume it means audio codec because the video plays
just fine. My test movie is the Amazon clip from Microsofts WMV site.

I don't seem to find a core dump in either /etc/X11/core or in /var/crash/ so
not sure how to get the backtrace. I followed the changes in

changed the file /etc/default/apport to enabled=0
and added
